Haiti's history is similar to that of Africa because we deal with selfish/corrupt leadership in one hand but promote African own innovation and "Aid" that causes our countries to stay complacent on thr other hand. It's like we are always forced to choose the lesser of two evils. On the positive side, there are black leadership that are waking up like John Magufuli (look him up). But we have long way to go before we can have black leadership who truly care about our advancement as African people. I just did Ancestry DNA (I encourage Haitians to do it as well) and I found out I am primarily Cameroon/Congo and Benin/Togo. A lot of Afrolatinx and African Americans can trace themselves back to these countries. We are one big family that separated. It is our job to hold global African leaders accountable and we all need to play our role in investing in African countries. I am tired of Haitian people being at the mercy of foreign governments and foreign people. Let's build up our home.

when l was 6, I was living in Haiti in the 80s. Tonton macoute and all! that s*** was so crazy. I was there for two years almost three and I saw a lot of s***, my dad almost got shot trying to drive through a checkpoint and he had to pay them off so we can go. But regardless I still wanted to be in Haiti even with the destruction going on. We came back to Brooklyn after my father had died. I am proud today of how many of us keep our heritage no matter where we are. America was scared Haiti was going to be like Castro's Cuba, which in my opinion we should but people who don't know will get upset. Haiti was is and always be America's competition. My bad, I get real about Haiti. Maglwa is the best way to pronounce it 😂

This sounds HORRIBLY similar to my country’s issues. Syria. The same. Dictator. People starving. Going missing. Tortured and murdered. Nobody can say criticism. Sounds right. I lost a few relatives to the police taking them away and we never heard from them again. And some relatives so rarely say it but have spoken up about our government police taking them to torture when they say anything negative about our government. It’s awful and an injustice but Haiti wasn’t and isn’t alone in its struggle. 💔

So I talked to my mom about it earlier tonight and she basically said similar things to what you said in both your videos. She told me how he was paranoid about people rising to revolt against him, and how one time he buried 19 men to their necks and poured syrup on their heads for the ants to eat them. She however, and this is just from her perspective, felt that Haiti was a safer place when he was in charge. She said that she felt like he really only killed those who were against him (again this is just her perspective of things).

My parents have been in this country since the 1970s. Growing up I used to hear Haiti was always clean and safe. My family said even before the Duvaliers era haiti was safe. It's interesting to listen to all of the elders in their 70s and 80s such as my parents and uncles and aunts discuss this regime. One thing for sure is you could not trust anyone because of fear. So the liberty of discussing opposition was out of the question during that time.

Also interesting is that you mentioned what must of happened to the kids in the shot up car, I was so waiting for you to link those to parts of the story. But cool tidbits about michel Bennett if you decided to go in to the papdocs son's story. She had kids before getting married to jean claude duvalier, her 2 kids grad father were killed by papa doc for an attempted coup. So her kids a brothers yet their grandfathers hated each other. Also she is the direct descendant of King Henri Christophe.

It's funny how Duvalier is always portrayed as the bad guy while when he was in power the country was way better than it is today, funny thing is that most institutions that Haitians are using now was his idea and he build most of them tho, (Ex The Airport, Tourism, Sports Centers etc, ), the country was safe. Most people that got exiled were plotting against him , they were trying to overthrow him. His main goal was to change the Haitian Mentality, but no one never understands that. He wasn't that bad. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

You're only saying that because none of your family was killed or exiled due to all the shit he did. It's important to look at all sides of a coin. Not just one. He did do a lot but numbers of senseless death, extortion, corruption and exploitation etc surpasses all of that.

Nop, not at all. I had relatives that went to jail under his regime. @@ChroniclesofaZoe. Like i told you the guy just wanted to changed the Haitian Victim mentality. He probably did it the hard way but i still can't blame him cause 1st) it was a dictature 2nd) they didn't give him any choices. One thing that you gotta know and understand, dealing with Haitians in Haiti is a complicated issue, it's very different from dealing with Haitians here in the States, they don't wanna follow any rules, here at least we follow the rules but back in the motherland things are very different, we don't follow the rules at all corruptions is getting the best of us down there, what do i mean is that if a Haitian is arrested for violating the law it's easy for him to get release through bribery etc. While under Duvalier there was no such thing, even Baby Doc was giving a traffic ticket by a police officer. People closed to him were also tried and went to jail. It wasn't like everything was bad under his regime. Did you knew that he forced one of his strong man to give the money that he was stealing from the government at the time?? And also do you have any proof that he was the one behind all these murders that were happening??..Cause a lot of his Tonton Makout and other people that had no relations with him at all were abusing others with excessive force, i'm not saying he was a saint but when you look at his presidential term in a bigger perspective you can clearly see that he was aiming for the country’s development and he did a lot that prove that. Ppl are blaming him for all these stuff just because he was the president and because he was trying to make them follow orders and create a black bourgeoisie that could compete with the white/Mulatto bourgeoisie, he was also trying to change the Haitian Victim mentality.
