It's not a lifetime commitment dude, depends on how much you earn & how much you want to take for mortgage. It's wiser to take a mortgage than a car loan because a car is a liability that depreciate in value while a house is an asset that appreciates. Ofcourse you shouldn't take huge loans/mortgage that you can't repay. You bite what you can chew!

Mortgage loan is not like a car loan my friend. Most of these loans have repayment periods of between 20 to 25 year. I am pretty sure standard bank cannot offer loan for a property in Kikima (remote village) so the value of mortgage won't be less than 5 million. Ownership of a mortgage is tied to bank till you clear the loan so can't even use the title to secure anything till then. Just to let you know less than 1% of workforce earn more than 100,000. Let's advice fellow Kenyans fairly, I know for Nganuthia, he is paid to endorse the product, he may have or the knowledge regarding mortgage loan

@@kidco8725 I know very well mortgage is 20+ years payments and it's okay as long as one has a plan & knows he can do it. Many people take them. I have one for 30yrs & before I took it, I knew what I'm getting into, an affordable home/mortgage & not something I can't sleep thinking where I'll get the money to pay at the end of the month. If it's in rural places, there are financial institutions there that offer mortgages, so Standard Bank can't give you one if they're not present there coz most banks give you loans if you bank with them. Ofcourse things happen along the way and you can get stuck to pay and the bank forecloses it, just like a car, some people will have accidents or unexpected issues that come up & the car is repossessed. It's life man, stop scaring people.
