PANTUVARALI|Classical and Film songs by Raaga Sparks

Every song that you hear in any language has a basic element - THE RAGA. Every song is based on a RAGA. We take one Raga in each episode and discuss the nuances of how it has been handled in both the Carnatic and Cinema world.
PANTUVARALI is the 51st Melakarta rāgam in the 72 Melakarta Ragam system of Carnatic music. It is called Kāshirāmakriya in the Muthuswami Dikshitarschool. The Hindustani music equivalent of Pantuvarali is the Poorvi thaat/Puriya Dhanashree.
It is also referred to as the Kamavardhini Ragam.
It is a sampurna rāgam - a rāgam that has all seven swaras (notes).

Very nice! One topic if you can discuss . What makes a film song filmy? The same pantuvarali sounds familiar but adapted to the ragam or what happens which makes it filmy??

Couldn't hold myself from posting my two-bit on this😀. In a film song, the situation is the hero, the focal point of the scene. The actors emote according to the situation. The song is also cast in such a manner as to enhance the feel of the situation and that's how the audience gets to feel the intended impact. That is how every film song is created. The notes at time may be juggled a bit from their strictly classical positions, to keep in sync with the situation for which it is used. Hope this answers your query

ஆனா, இந்த people from INdia particularly Mylapore mamas and Mamis try to propagate this false attitude.

Hello Mr. sundar. Be it the presenters or the participants any one can speak any language he or she is comfortable with. And I know Balaji for the last 10 years and his language is natural and not artificial. I have travelled to the US many times and have come across many mamas and Mamis trying American accent which sounds artificial. Hence I just wanted to ventilate you with this fact that Balaji s flow of language is natural and not artificial. Pl do enjoy our future episodes Sundar jee. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@sriganeshlalgudi4496 Thank you for your reply. Natural or artificial doesn’t matter here. Who’re all your audience. That’s the key. Of course he has a good vocabulary but this’s not needed here. When we say Peter means show off. Even if someone does in the US like you said, that should also be condemned. Hope these will go away with older Generations.

In the Introduction time, this (Sri Ganesh) guy said that they received comments from ‘Pamaran’, who are all paamarans. what do you all think about yourselves? Hypocrites... Why are you guys talking in English when you think ‘Pamaran’ comments are valuable. Do you know what others know. You guys are laymen in many areas that others are knowledgeable. You can’t do many things what others do. Don’t ever project only Carnatic music is superior to all. Finally, for view sake you all fall back with Ilaiyaraja songs, no other go...

What is important is whether the audience can understand and appreciate Language is just a medium In one field, a person may be an expert but in many other fields he may be a "pamaran" When he referred pamaran, it refers to people who have little or no knowledge of music and specifically classical music
