Pants Anatomy 101 | Pants Rise | Part 1

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a part of menswear that gets habitually overlooked. I've done it and I'll seen customers do it. But it is one part in the overall anatomy of a man's outift that adds to it looking great or looking awful.

You make this topic so accessible and interesting. I appreciate you talking about what fits for you and why. It helps me to think about what might work for my teenage son who still wants to wear sweat pants everywhere. I plan on sending this video to him, which he will probably ignore. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! I have been sewing since I was four, worked in costume shops and made my own clothes for years. Your explanations are spot on, in my opinion.

High rise pants are also the most comfortable. Soldiers, boxing fighters, all the people who need to move easily wear high rise.

Super comfortable! I'd love to see men wear and talk about high waisted pants more in this modern fashion age

You can find them in jeans also, Levi’s 501 and 510 are pretty high rise since they sit at the natural waist.

5:35 bro you have no idea how many videos i searched to see whats the right way to wear mid rise. All other yt videos demo it fit men without belly or love handles. This was very helpful. Thank you

Hi Ian! I've come here a year from when you made this video to tell you this has been the best video on pant rise Ive seen. Im right now remaking my wardrobe and I didnt know how my jeans and chinos should fit because Ive always liked high rise pants. I think Ill follow your suggestion of keeping them with a mid rise so that when I get my first suit I can be truly fulfilled and alsoi because they are made to be like that. Thanks a lot!

Good information. What was missing is with men that have a more matured waistline and going from a low or mid rise up to a high rise and having to go a little bigger on the waist size to accommodate the extra girth. I really like the actual measurements for the different rises.

I'm 6'5". I ran into some low rise pants once and had NO IDEA what was going on. P.S. I'm new here... Good Video.

I’m fairly tall, 6’2”, and kind of long waisted. I don’t like the look or feel on me of higher rise, and short rise looks bizarre on me. I compromise at mid rise-that works best. Keep the excellent videos coming.

Btw I really appreciate your videos because being fit gives you some fit issues and most accounts do not address these issues. Your outfits are down to earth normal guy outfits. Your videos are educational well thought out with out the click bate and unnecessary hype.

Ian great job zeroing in on the details! Excellent point wrt maintaining a seamless transition btwn suit jacket or vest to trousers w/o shirt peaking out. That is so critical. Your Luxaire trousers look great. (Natural waist divided by 58) x 18= ideal regular rise. I think I found this formula in an article from Gentlemen's Gazette. It definitely holds true to prevent that paper milk carton spout as soon as I sit or squat or worse (dreaded plumbers crack) 😂. For myself, this comes out at 11in front rise minimum for jeans /chinos I also find in order to keep pockets from flaring out on slant pocketed trousers/chinos requires both proper hip/seat width and rise. Seat & rise are to bottoms what shoulders are to suit jackets / SC.

Oh I have to try that formula out! You might be taller than me with an 11in front rise. Did you also go through a trial and error stage to figure that out or did you just hit it right off the bat?

Fit Man Style - Much , much trial and error my friend. J.Crew, BR, BB, Asket, PMNYC, Gap, Target, Khols and most Uniqlo bottoms are 10.5in or below in casual bottoms. After discovering the formula I looked for brands w/ 11in rise or >. This is when I discovered Everlane and Spier & Mackay and a have yet to be disappointed by the fit of these brands at their price points. Ian, you have a few inches on me height wise but the formula works regardless of height as it focuses on rise to waist circumference. For ref I'm a tall 5'6" 😂 suit size 42s / 35-36 in most vanity sized bottoms, 29 inseam (27 for cropped summer styles). Now I look at sizing charts, I look at the the rise first then the waist size. You can always take in the waist about 2-3 inches but you can't add rise to an OTR bottom.

I wear my jeans in mid rise and they seat exactly how you describe it. But my chinos or especially if i wear them in more dressier style are above hip bone(slightly higher than typical mid rise). I call this "deep mid rise" :) Its still work a little better especially with shirt tucked in

I have a short rise. I am about 5'6" and weight about 180lbs. I have a very hard time buying pants. Most I am now getting custom made (out of country so not to expensive). I have a 9 3/8" front rise. i am a 29" inseam. It really looks bad when my pants bunch up at the crotch or there is an extra bit of fabric that makes the crotch area look like it's a skirt. I don't like that. Buying off the rack is impossible as all pants are 12 inch rise or more.
