He's a fucking awesome bass player. People always think of the bass as just low end, which it is, but it's also can make or break a song with a good bassline. Bass isn't supposed to just copy the guitar riff, it has its own thing. Musicians understand what I'm saying.

@@zombiemosher1139 We used to go see Pantera all the time in the early club days. Diamond Darrell was just a skinny kid in spandex jammin' his ass off. That was when you could rock out in front of the small stage just couple of feet away from the band. It was great times partying with them. Dime and Vinnie were cool cats, singer Terry was also friendly guy. Rex was a bit of a dick. I still have a pink pick with Diamond Darrell on it that Dime handed me. Saw them so many times, the last time was pantera/slayer/ and morbid angel tour on release of RTS at the shark tank in san jose, I didnt realize at the time that they would soon be no more. +soyhard deren Saw Pantera 17 times, 9 of which were at Hara Arena in my hometown of Dayton, OH, where they were officially named the house band. Pantera was essentially the hardcore counterpart of bands like The Grateful Dead, Phish and Dave Matthews Band. The audience interaction was always superb, their setlist had about 5 songs set in stone; the rest of the concert was improvised and no two shows were ever the same. So rare to find bands like that today.

Joshua Maine Yep, and he wasn't even honored at the Grammy awards following his death, despite Pantera's multiple nominations. His onstage murder didn't even make VH1's list of the top 100 most shocking moments in music history either. The music media just loves to hate metal. That's OK, because he has received honors and has reached immortality in every single guitar publication on the newsstands, and there isn't a modern guitarist of ANY current musical genre that doesn't respect him, even if they aren't Pantera fans. I think he'd find that much more fulfilling than the praise of the mainstream music media.

I just rewatched this concert again. So damn good......so tight. I was lucky enough to have seen them twice live back in the day. When I saw them last, Anthrax was the opener. I was standing just outside of the pit area when I looked over and saw Dimebag with Big Val right behind him. Dime was watching the Anthrax set from the crowd's perspective. I went up to him and said hi, shook his hand......and he said, "Aren't these guys fucking killer?", pointing at Anthrax on stage. Then he gave me some of his guitar picks that had a phone number on it.......which I still have. He then told me he had to go get ready,.....he and Val disappeared to the back. I have never seen someone from the headlining act hang out with the crowd before. But that was Dime......something I'll never forget.

I witnessed this tour in Indy. I was in the 7th grade. Been to many shows since and none compare. Dime gave the horns to me and my buddy during floods. The lights were dimmed blue, everyone was in awe, and when he looked our way we went crazy, threw the horns and received them back. Coolest thing ever. Phil came out and sang summoning redemption with morbid angel. Soulfly had like a 30 minute drum solo and members from all bands came out with tribal drums. Bobby filmed for a home video, sadly was never released. Hot Lesbians makin out in front of me. The drunk dude next to us kept screaming dale Jarrett lol, we was like "bro, do you know where yourat. But when fucking hostile came on he knew every word lol. Greatest time of my life.

What made Dime sick was an example of at 5:05 where he puts on a phaser effect just at the end of the riff only, just to give it a spice. Most guitarists think of adding effects to an entire riff. But he was a king with effects. Man that guy was such a fucking good guitarist. RIP. Amazing band

Awesome performance. They were great from the day they got together till the day it ended. The albums might be different but they're all classics. They're one of the few bands who throughout their time kept true and didn't sell out to become popular. That's why they're one of my all time special and favourite bands. I love heavy music and hate bands that produce lightweight music to sell records yet claim to be a heavy metal band.

fightinggamefanatic Better than never man...I got into Pantera pretty young but I never got the chance to catch em live. I was only 11 when they last played in 2001. Dime was by FAR my biggest musical and in general influence growing up, I'd try learning all his songs/solos..Saved up money and bought a dean ML-F around 2004, wanted one the Washburn lightning bolt models so bad lol and one of his warhead amps, bought a digitech whammy pedal since he used one, crybaby from hell wah pedal, and so on lol. I remember watching Pantera home videos with a couple of my friends just laughing our asses off. I wasn't really as big on the Damageplan album (still enjoyed it) but I was hoping to catch them live since Pantera was gone, and I wanted to see Dime live so badly. My first concerts were Primus, then Slayer/Killswitch/Mastodon (I think..was the Jagermeister tour) both in 2004. Was planning to catch Damageplan next time they were in the Boston area, but we sadly lost Dime before that happened. Just a shame how things turned out with Pantera falling apart, and Dimes life being taken when things seemed to be looking up for him (was happy to be back recording music/touring, to be back with Dean guitars, etc.) then it was all over in an instant when that shitbag killed Dime and the other victims. Just wish Vin would move on and bury the hatchet with Phil..he needs to realize people do/say a lot of shit they normally never would when they're battling shit like opiate addiction..and regardless of his mistakes Phil NEVER would've wanted that to happen to Dime. It's a lot to forgive but with someone who was like family like all 4 of these guys were it's worth it. Knowing the kind of person Dime was, I think now that Phil's past his addiction/back issues, he'd want Vin and Phil to get over the past bullshit and move on. It'd prob help heal some old wounds for both dudes. Unfortunately seems like Vinnie doesn't plan to ever make an effort to speak to Phil. I prob will always wonder why things had to go the way they did every time I listen to these guys for the rest of my life lol..just ain't fair how life can be sometimes haha.

I've seen every major metal band and most of the better guitar players to do it, with a few exceptions. I cannot explain how much better dimes sound was than all of them. His tone, how loud, clear, and thick is was. Also how perfectly everything was played. Dude had an uncanny feel for music. He was a demi-god.

murilo ninj AHH!!!! You guys are killin' me! Haha! That's awesome, though. I should mention that I saw them open for Skid Row in the Giant's Stadium parking lot in 1992. :) It was amazing. Ace Frehley came out at toward the end of Skid Row's set and played 'Cold Gin' and the guys from Pantera joined in! I was in row 30-something (and jumped up on my seat when Ace came out!). You can find the (low quality) video on here. Just search "Skid Row Pantera Ace Frehley Cold Gin 1992". :) I just wish I'd seen Pantera when they were headlining, but that's just me. :) Cheers!

No matter how many times I watch this, It makes me feel fucking incredible. What an amazing performance by the one n only kings of metal, Pantera! I never got the chance to see them live. What a shame. Dime, You'll always be the greatest guitar god that ever lived. There'll be none like you. There can only be one. You're truly one of a kind. The world misses you. May you rest in peace, brother Dime.
