Pannier tanks 4645 & 8791 haul the last passenger train to Blaenau Festiniog from Ruabon to Blaenau on 22nd January 1961. It was closed primarily because the government had got the bit between its teeth and despite all opposition were determined to flood the valley and village of Capel Celyn. My family travelled this line regularly and it was well used. They wanted to close the Barmouth Ruabon line so by loping off bit’s they brought it to a point when there wasn’t enough use. Bala is a major tourist destination now with a heritage line it could be a bigger one.

@@arthurbaldwin1804Is it true they built the road around the reservoir to prevent the line being rerouted? The better halfs family originate from that neck of the woods (now all in anglesey) & that's what her granddad told us when we went for a weekend camping in bala.

This brilliant, thank you. Am I right that at 7:55 we arrive at Tyddyn Bridge Halt, and then through the valley that is now covered by the reservoir? At 8:25 we are looking back towards what is now the dam?
