Panjshir Valley after the Taliban takeover: An occupied, impoverished territory • FRANCE 24

#Panjshir Valley became known as the last bastion of the anti-Taliban resistance as the militants swept to power in #Afghanistan in August. But it was only a matter of weeks before Panjshir too would fall into #Taliban control. Once a bustling hub of activity, Panjshir is now largely deserted. The few residents who have stayed are now under constant surveillance, and are struggling to survive amid a crippling economic crisis. Sonia Ghezali, Shahzaib Wahlah and Solène Chalvon Fioriti report.

The problem is that money could end up going to the Tali. Maybe the Tali will completely reform itself and stop being radical because of how scared it is and needs other nation's supports, but that's only because other nations won't give support until we know they're not radical. Basically, if Tali de-radicalize because of wanting support, than the US mission would actually be a success, as the Tali would then modernize and de-radicalize, eventually turning into possibly a democracy. It would be nice if they do this, but that's basically what we've been wanting them to do for 20 years so if they do it's also giving us what we've wanted without us needing to intervene to get it done, which is a win-win for all I guess, but the tali needs to let go of its pride for that to work.

A lot of the benefits that the Tali are going to reap by a much more educated populace and better infrastructure were from the US's attempt to nation-build a democracy. The US failed to create a functioning democracy, but it did benefit Afghanistan and its people in some ways. Further, the start of modernizing the highway system has probably paved the way for China and Pakistan to step in, and they'll take all the credit, we'll see though. Either way, I do agree that a lot of the money was spent inefficiently and lost to corruption, which is one of the reasons I want to be extra careful about how we spend our money abroad now and in the future.

Travel via Pakistan. Go to Pakistan areas that border Afghanistan. Get some trusted friends. Pakistanis are very hospitable people. Travel legally to Afghanistan via Pakistan. You can go meet the Taliban at their HQ in various cities etc. And you are free to do whatever you want.

The Taliban seem extremely liberal allowing even fake news networks to film which I feel like they should be banned but anyways I’m sure you will have no problem inshALLAH. It’s pretty easy to get an Afghan visa in the new government AFAIK and yes, through Pakistan. If you do choose to go, although security is much better after the end of the occupation, I would advise to try to stay away from Nangarhar/Jalalabad as isis still remains unfortunately. Also sorry for my profile picture it is a meme and I don’t support binladen lol
