    Ok, so the clip is 4 years old, I still enjoyed it and would like to say "Hats off" I do remember 1963 very well, Edith Piaf died and my gym teacher traded in his Renault Ondine for a Panhard. We all had a ride in it. Panhard's did sell in the Netherlands, not in huge amounts, but enough to see them daily in my home town Hilversum. What a job this has been, you deserved the prices you've got. Hope you are still enjoying the car. Myself, having one foot in the grave, am still enjoying driving my Citroën CX here in Vancouver Canada, we do rust together. Thanks John, Bas.

    Thanks Bas, it sounds like we might be a similar age.I was 13, had just started casual work in a friends garage. It would be two years before I saw my first Panhard. Keep safe John

    Having seen this car in the metal many times, and indeed having travelled in it a couple of years ago, I consider this to be one of the best home restorations I’ve ever seen.

    Living her in the US, I just learned about Panhards a few weeks ago I was doing some research and found your video. It was truly enjoyable and I learned a bit more about the make up of these unique vehicles. Congrats to you on a job well done and happy motoring!

    Beautiful job, John! I'm very, very impressed by what you've accomplished. I had a 1960 for 21 years and know a lot of the nooks and crannies too, the joys and heartaches. I hope you drive it frequently and enjoy every mile.

    Hi Paul, thanks for your kind comments. Yes I do use it all year and she still looks as good almost 4years down the line. Still going well, no breakdowns and she does attract a lot of interest at shows, being so rare. Ownership is addictive and it's such fun to drive!

    Hi Hans, it's the fact that I've done all the work myself that floats my boat! Mine's much better than driveable and didn't cost much more than €5000 in total.

    Hi Maxim, thanks for your kind comments. I was an apprentice trained vehicle technician but spent most of my career in management. It was an extremely enjoyable and rewarding experience to ‘dust off’ my old skills after more than 30 years and complete this restoration as a retirement project.

    This is a very well done restauration of a phantastic car, mainly made of aluminium, hence relatively few corrosion after all this time outside, and ... quick dispite the small engine. After WWII, aluminium was easier to get than steel! Thanks for the good show, John.

    Hi Joseph, thanks for your kind comments. I have recently bought a Panhard 24BT, again recently imported from France, this one has been off the road for 30 years and is receiving similar treatment, although, to be fair, it is nowhere near as bad! I’m going to put together another photo compilation when it’s finished, so watch out for it! John.

    Well done John, deserves the Trophy ! I had to put a complete floor in mine when I did it but had to rush it as I needed it for work , so it never looked as good as this. Nicely done video too ! Adrian

    Hello, ....amazing piece of work. Excellent job! I have a question - how did you separate the aluminium external fins from the engine's cast iron cylinder lining? I am led to believe it is very hard, seeing that the engine design has no cylinder head. Did you need special tools? I am extremely fascinated by Panhard's two cylinder air-cooled engines. Thank you for restoring the works of art. Thank you.

  • @trojan175

    @trojan175

    Hi there, fortunately I didn’t need to remove the liner. I have a number of cylinders and they really don’t suffer badly from wear - unless the piston/rings have seized and caused scoring. To remove the liner you need to heat up the barrel to a sufficient temperature and the liner should come out quite easily.

    @@trojan175 Wow!! I have always wonder about that. Another thing I keep wondering is how easily Panhard could have made a 4 cylinder variant and how much horsepower that could have delivered. It seems Citroen kept them starved of funds. What a shame!

  • @trojan175

    @trojan175

    Жыл бұрын

    @@TheMidasMD Panhard did make multi cylinder versions of the engine for use in their military vehicles. They increased the cylinder capacity to 500cc and produced a 4 cylinder 2 litre version - de-tuned to run on low grade fuel. Citroen would not allow a larger engine in Panhards! The largest derivative was a 6 litre flat 12 ! Scary!

    Hi Arturo unfortunately rust was a BIG problem with all cars produced in the ‘60s, fortunately this one had lived in the South of France, so was less badly affected! 😀😀
