panellogy 511 - hergé - my collection of tintin & more

I've been in an hergé-mania the last couple of weeks, re-acquainting myself with the great tintin-stories and the great art of hergé and his studio.

This is a magnificent collection. I really enjoy the pirate sequences in secret of unicorn to this day. I also remember there was a tiny cross over between Tintin and Jo, Zette and Jocko, where they ran into each other in one of the books.

would love to get this set, in Serbia Tin Tin was very popular in the past but never was published in this big and complete albums, it is a shame. Only two albums collecting first 5 stories was printed.

I love Tintin series so much! ... I have large box set of Egmont and double some of my favorite episodes in HC .... I can read them 100 times and stories will be still awesome like a first time read ! One of the best series ever created and must have for every comic fan in the world :) I realy like this HC German edition box set ... I wish Egmont did the same thing ...The Calculus Affair i think i read most often :)

I do have all of the Tintin books (aside from Alph Art) although they're currently spread all around the house and not in the best condition (due to them being my childhood copies). Someday I really want to get that hardcover boxset, it looks really tempting.

I’ve recently started reading my boxset of Tintin books. Unfortunately, they are just softcovers, and they are all the redone versions. I’m only up to the Black Lotus. I like them but I think I would be way more into them if I had read them as a child first. I also recently got a hold of some albums of Spirou & Fantasio as well but I haven’t been able to dig in yet.

"Die Kunst von Hergé" (3 volumes for about 600 pages) seems to be an extremely condensed translation of "Hergé : chronologie d'une oeuvre" (7 volumes for about 3000 pages) which is considered a reference among books about Hergé in french.

it's by Philippe Goddin & while I could not get enough of Hergé's art... the text feels absolutely not very condensed, rather loosely meandering and skipping between events in the tintin-fiction and the hergé-reality... but yes: now you made me curious about these French tomes

Mr. Earl, one more interesting book to add to your Tintin journey, might be Tintin the complete companion by Michael Farr. It’s about the sources of the stories. I think he also wrote a few other books about Tintin but I haven’t read those.

Hey, Mr. Grey! Just want to make sure you've heard the news about My Favorite Thing Is Monsters volume 2. Fantagraphics confirmed it will come out next April. A long wait, but I didn't think it was ever coming out. They are also putting out the "extras" book that was in the Love & Rockets boxed set as a solo book. And they are translating the Search & Destroy manga.

Tintin is still in print in Portugal, but I do wonder if it will appeal to younger audiences who are growing up watching anime and CalArts. Ligne claire is the perfect mix of subtlety and simplicity. May be too complicated for present day kids, while appearing undeveloped.

That’s a quite hefty collection of Tintins. Not sure how completionist you are but there was one more Tintin album published: Tintin at Sharklake. However it was not made by Herge so it’s not part of the canon. That album is compiled from the frames of a Tintin cartoon of the same name. It exists in Finnish but I’m not sure what other translations were made.

@@earlgrey862 I am somewhat ambivalent, as I like the later stories as they are kind of serious but I also think that they're not as good as say the Blue Lotus. It's also interesting to know that sometime in the 2050's, Tintin enters public domain, unless they publish a book. It might be exciting if I am around by then. But will people even care?!
