panellogy 509 - charles burns #8 - caprice & some johnny ryan as a bonus
Ойын-сауық
a little artbook, not even full comic book size ... but hey, it's Charles Burns so it's my duty and honor to show you "Caprice" by Charles Burns. And a bit of an overview of some outstanding publications by the French "Mansion Press".
I spoke about Anders Nilsen's tongues-books in panellogy 489, starting at 12:20 (but I should do video totally devoted to that series) • panellogy 489 - fave c...
I'm pretty sure I did more than this video about Johnny Ryan... but at least here's my take on his "Prison Pit" (panellogy 226) • panellogy 226 - prison...
(almost tame stuff in comparison to his recent output published by Mansion Press)

It's all in eyes, when it come to Burns. There is something magnetic about how he draws them.

yes, that's a good observation
As far as I know Huss means nothing in English. But if you put a Y at the end of it you get Hussy which is an old fashioned term for a woman who is too loose with her sexuality. In old movies you can sometimes see an older woman calling a younger one a Hussy with great disapproval. I've only heard it used ironically in real life. I'd guess that Huss is a play on that.

thanks for clearing that up 👍
Reading the new Johnny Ryan book (F My Son) was a complete fever dream, even more so than his other works. I wasn't even expecting the title to be so literal.

"Fever dream" is one way to describe it... I'm a bit afraid of myself that I enjoyed it quite a bit - maybe some real dirty catharsis at the end of a totally forgettable week, I don't know 🤨

@@earlgrey862 I enjoyed it a lot too, might be one of my more favorite Johnny Ryan books!
Brought your name up on another live comic review channel (Richard Friend). Ppl were already familiar but you should be a couple subscribers stronger now

I'm the only person who wishes he had his money back for that Bat spoof. I do really love those Nilsen books.

The Mansion Press is amazing. I really want the Tony Millionaire and Simon Hanselmann art books they put out. I also need Fuck My Son #1 (haha, that sentence)
