Wondering how this would effect the animals living in and nesting within the plants or trees like birds. It is defense for bugs who are naturally luminous. So, does that mean that the species who make these plants home will be homeless. Just wondering and curious. I hope they have the answers before possibly evicting wildlife from their natural homes. I could be wrong, and I hope I am.

They need to come up with a machine that makes gene splicing much easier. Kinda like a 3D printing incubator or something. Provide the mix of genes and digitally orginize them on a screen, and then press a button and the machine will digitally create an animal similar to a womb; and, for a plant, build the seed and supply it automatically with things needed to grow. Yk? Would make all this stuff much simpler if you get the hard part of building the machine out of the way.

What about the fact that people and plants need dark at night in order to be healthy? Our own very important hormone and antioxidant, melatonin needs for us to be in the dark at night. We already have an over-lighted world, stressing all life that evolved to have only moonlight and starlight in seasonal cycles at night. The idea of replacing electricity and all its production entails may be a good intention, but this is not a solution.

I imagine that we could actually solve real world problems like food, if scientists and engineers were actually paid to do that.

i dont think it emits the right wavelengths of light to reabsorb it as energy. if im not mistaking plants absorb blue and red wavelengths the best.

Even if they can, the photosynthesis would yield less energy and in turn less carbohydrate since energy conversion from one form to another isn't perfect (Newton Law)... thus, making it less useful then you imagine
