Panda School: (EXCLUSIVE) How the National Zoo Trains Its Panda Cub | National Geographic
Ойын-сауық
What motivates a young giant panda? Food, of course! And that's what the zookeepers at the Smithsonian's National Zoo use to reward Bei Bei the panda cub as he completes training tasks. Bei Bei, born on August 22, 2015, isn't quite old enough to eat bamboo like his older sister, Bao Bao, and parents, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, but he sure loves sweet potatoes (and has recently acquired a taste for apples). In this exclusive behind-the-scenes look, see how and why zookeepers are training Bei Bei.

Panda🐼panda🐼panda🐼panda! I got broads in Atlanta!
Is so sweet
Panda is a wild animal so they trained them to interact with people.
Early childhood education helps the brain development of all mammals - Bei Bei has heartily proven that!! e.g. His mommy Mei Xiang took him up & down the mountain structure at an age way before she did with his earlier siblings, & he learned to climb & take difficult leaps on that mountain much sooner than they did !! Thank you very much for sharing this video!
I want to marry Bei Bei when he grows up
why pandas have to be train like humans I do not understand that obsetion for making animals look like humans why is nature is perfect the way it is I love animals the way they are and we have to teach our children that
@Deadlyroll

If they do not train them, every procedure and exam no matter how minor will require a sedation and sedations come with risks. They are training the pandas to do things like sticking their arm out so they can collect blood sample and run tests without having to resort to sedation. They are not doing this just to make them "more human".

Será que não estão querendo humanizar exageradamente esses animais? Parece um distanciamento do propósito de salvar da extinção esses lindos animais! Acho que eles precisam muito mais de carinho e respeito nas suas naturais condições. 🐼🐼🐼🤔🤔🤔💗🌼💗🌼

So many animal experts in the comments here, Jesus... The zoo isn't doing anything wrong. The pandas here are never going to be released into the wild, which is why they're socialized with humans- Why would a zoo want wild, unfriendly pandas which are more likely to get stressed when they can let the pandas learn their zookeeper's are friends? These pandas also aren't being trained to do "tricks" like people are whining about. These are actually vitally important to their health, as stated in the video. Training a panda to give his paw through the fence allows for blood to be drawn. Standing, putting paws on the fence, etc. is for physical exams. When you train a zoo animal to do these things, it allows the veterinarian to give a physical exam without tranquilizing or putting the animal under anesthesia, which are dangerous. The China program is great, but it isn't better. They're both great. The National Zoo pandas will never be released into the wild therefore the methods of husbandry are different! The National Zoo produces panda cubs with selective breeding for the best, strongest genetics. These cubs will he sent to China for THEIR breeding program, and then their cubs will he released. :)
👍
A panda who can understand English😃
Can they do kung fu?
They look thinner than cub in china
I thought Pandas didn't do anything but eat, sleep, and sit.

Actually , as adults, they spend most of their time foraging, wandering around & exploring their forest environments, & leaving scent marks to signify their presence to seek out the best possible mate!!!
Not really all pandas like to hug human's legs

天 means sky, and the translation said "more and more" so 添添 is correct.

How do you know that? The informative video, "Raising Cute Pandas, It's Complicated," states that the pandas survival rating has gone up to 90%. As far as information goes the pandas are perfectly fine, if we properly care for them enough for them to finally live on their own without ANY human contact.
@bleachy4947

Their habitats are rapidly be destroyed, leading to a decline in wild pandas and it is well know that it is extremely difficult to get pandas to mate and have children in captivity. I like pandas as much as the next guy but it's not looking good.

How they gonna give him a Chinese name but speak English to him??
Pandas still use chinese name although they live in a zoo outside China.

Rendy Andrian because they all belonged to china even for those born abroad. Their parents are all on a loan, zoo pay them couple million in rental fees per year to keep them.
I low key feel that they are doing it all wrong
I feel bad they should be released in the wild. That's how nature is, we shouldn't mess with it. China raises pandas the better way and releases them in the wild. These adorable creatures need to live in their natural habitat.
I can not understand why this Smithsonian national zoo likes to give ice cube for a old mother giant panda Mei Xiang who needs breast milk to as snack. How a old-blooded behavior but they have done several times in these 64 days.

Dakyus Dark Elf actually the Chinese pandas that a raised in captivity at their center are trained to be in the wilderness and to be non dependent on humans, so their survival rate after being released is much higher
@flufflepuffle

Dakyus Dark Elf The Chinese program actually goes to great lengths to keep the pandas that they raise from getting accustomed to humans, and they do special training to teach pandas to forage and to recognise predators. They are he first to succeed in bringing up pandas that can make it in the wild.
Pandas are so lazy, just eating all the time, they don't even want to have sex, no wonder, they were almost extinct. Living toys
to menphis zoo: you killed lele, an innocent animal. how disgusting is that? lele was sick and starving !!! !!! please give enough and nice food to yaya as we are watching live everyday !!!
“Train them” lol. Train them for what? To be a dog? Smh. Take lessons from the Chinese, America.
