PanchaMtantra Insight - The Burning Train

It is interesting to understand how Panchamda conceived his music, keeping the film in mind. Listen to Madhav Vijay, as he explains the genius composer's approach to this brilliant title music of the 1980 thriller - The Burning Train.

RD was a genius, way ahead of his times, so many of his title music numbers are total blockbusters, Sholay, Shaan, Burning Train, Deewar to name a few, and we listen to those till today speaks for his achievement. God bless his soul.

@@tamals22 Its not that way brother. I had read in an interview of RDBurman to Khalid Mohamed for FilmFare. Subhash Ghai signed RD for Ram Lakhan and LP for Devaa (Amitabh Bachchan starrer). Subhash Ghai did not had any seating as such but RD had kept few tunes tentatively ready. Differences cropped up between Ghai and BigB and Devaa project was scrapped. Ghai without informing RD, bought LP for Ram Lakhan. RD's self respect was shattered. His own words in that interview were "I never felt so humiliated in my life. Mr. Ghai did not even show the courtesy to inform me about it." Anyways. Taal happened much later when RD had already left this world. If you see the final journey of RD (Available on KZread) Ghai has commented there about RD's greatness. But the bitterness never faded off. RD's fans are still enraged over this episode.

Heard this title track for so many times, but today discovered a new sound of something fading away almost as if echoing just at the end where transpose of keys taking place, sounded superb in headphones. Hats off to the Magician.

What an absolutely wonderful breakdown and analysis of this extraordinary song from the Burning Train movie. This particular music was way a complete different style to the regular Bollywood music pieces that you would normally hear, I still have the original vinyl that contains the film sound tracks to this movie. The component that fascinated me the most was the synth sound that would come in to convey the danger and evil of the Danny Dezongpa character. How, throughout the movie they kept utilizing that sound with close ups of Danny's face. Its like this song was telling the whole Burning Train story and at each stage when Danny comes in, that sound gets played. Also, for a child listening to those male vocals was absolutely hilarious. Fantastic master piece music. Practically all the songs in this movie were truly wonderous.

But that doesn't make Rahman any less than of a genuine composer. Every music composer sample pieces...and music is an art...if u take something original and make something new of it...I think that would be called as ur creation. Infact at that era R.D Sir introduced vocal processor or you can say vocal synth during his singing part in this particular song He was way way ahead of his time.

Please allow me to add one more thing. I think this was the first Indian Movie where R.D Burman used Vocoder effect (When mic is connected to Synthezier and the singer vocal is routed by Synth and produced robot like voice) Here Burman Da used Vocoder effect at 02:41 Please listen carefully. Kind Regards From Pakistan
