Panavia Tornado GR.Mk, RAF No.15 Sqn, ZA447 MiG Eater, Operation Granby, 1991, Hobby Master 1:72

The RAF aircraft that took part in the 1991 Gulf War are were painted in a distinctive desert pink camouflage over-wash, PANAVIA Tornado GR.1 ZA447/EA carries attractive nose art decoration, which was a feature of many of the Gulf War serving RAF aircraft. Carrying the name "MiG Eater', complete with fearsome shark teeth artwork, this aircraft was thought to have destroyed an Iraqi Air Force MiG-29 fighter (hence the name), whilst completing an airfield denial mission, over Iraq. It was later discovered that it was actually a Mirage F.1, but ZA447 was one of the busiest Tornados over the Gulf, completing 40 combat missions for coalition air forces. It later went on to be one of the star exhibits at the 1991 Mildenhall Air Fete.
As one of the most effective low level, all weather strike aircraft in the world, the PANAVIA Tornado was the product of a successful collaboration between the aircraft industries of Britain, West Germany and Italy. Entering RAF service in 1979, the Tornado has provided interdictor strike, reconnaissance and electronic countermeasure support since that date and has seen plenty of action in major overseas operations during this time. With the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, coalition air forces were charged with the initial international military response to this outrage and the Tornado was to be a significant contributor. The Gulf War saw Tornado GR.1 aircraft attacking Iraqi airfields with their JP233 airfield denial weapon, which was to prove particularly effective in eradicating any Iraqi Air Force threat to coalition forces.
Seen here is the aircraft in diecast metal made by Hobby Master in 1:72nd scale. It's an extremely well-made diecast model with great detail.
**I thought I'd put this up. I made a mistake as picked out by one of our fantastic viewers. The fuel tanks on the video need to be swapped around. As the air to air missiles could be in-board between the tank and fuselage. I have them with the missiles on the outside. My bad, rookie mistake. Just thought I'd make all aware. Thank's again for watching. And if you ever see anything I have done incorrectly. Feel free to let me know, I'm happy to be corrected. Cheers 😀**
In regard to use of factual unit symbols and/or insignia. I use these out of complete respect. If anyone finds they are misused in my videos, please let me know and I will remove immediately. I have the utmost respect and admiration to those who have served and still serve with their respective armed forces to protect freedom and world peace.

I'm really impress that you have the money to get many of these models, I am very reluctant to even get one.

To be honest I'm scared to think how much I've spent in the last couple of years and especially in the last 6 month's since starting this channel, haha. I started with the cheaper $30 plastic ones as I was very hesitant about spending $100 To $200 on a diecast model aswell. Then I sold a classic car, had some spare coin and thought why not....And the rest is history, haha. I mean I have bought some I normally may not, but figured some viewers might want to see it. So probably spending more now I'm YouTubing 🤣. Thanks for checking out out the video and taking the time to comment 😀👍🇦🇺

@@heavymetaldiecast, you must be sticking to the new Hobby Master die-cast as they are released. It the prices you state, it can be hard to find a bargain on the older models.

@@weldonyoung1013 absolutely, I'm a little late to the world of diecast as the last decade I was into working on real life classic cars. Now my age and body has stopped me from working on them and I have gone back to an old interest of mine from when I was younger and that's military aircraft and vehicles. Thanks for checking out the video 😀

Thanks for the great review, I'm kind of looking at this and wondering if I should get this one. I do like the story behind it, it just feels a bit to me, like the cluster bomb containers are somewhat plain in their detailing as they appear like they are "flat" green - kind of plasticy, if you get what I mean. The rest is lovely to look at and has that wonderful mission profile as well to boast.

@@heavymetaldiecast yea, it just looks soooo sad with its face 😂 I'll try and get an idea whether I prefer this color scheme or a grey one. I do like the bomblet dispensers on this one, though.

You are absolutely correct 😉 the air to air missiles should be located on the inside of tank between tank and fuselage. My first major mistake, haha was waiting to see how long it took. Thanks for watching and being the first to spot the rookie error 🤣👍

Do you think the livery on this Tornado is too pink or is it ok in the flesh? I'm thinking on buy one of these Tonkas, but I'm afraid to buy a Pink Panther :D

I actually like it, its not bright pink. It's more a dirty shade, similar to the puma video I did from the same area of operations. Its fairly accurate in colour to the real life versions, sometimes hard to put through the camera the exact colour and peoples phone's , monitor's or even tv settings are all different so may change the colour a little depending on what your watching this video on. But me personally I like the colours :). Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate it :)

Panavia Tornado isn't a "fighter" it is a BOMBER.

It's a multi role strike aircraft with various versions playing the role of either interceptor fighter or ground attack. But yes it's not purely a fighter. So I guess technically you could call it a fighter bomber 😀🤣👍. Thanks for checking out the video at least and the comment 😀👍. Appreciate all input 🙏

@@chrisking843, the Tornado comes in 3 different varieties, but I believe Hobby Master has only made the IDS and ECR. I prefer the ECR even though fewer were made. Somehow an all missile weapons load just looks right to me. I went with the German HA6711, bit of a dark paint scheme though.
