Panasonic RQ-830S Broken Plunger Repair & Restoration. TNT Dynamite 8-Track Player Belt Change

Hi folks,
Here's a cool 8-Track player that has made its way across the Atlantic. The plunger mechanism for which it is famous dit not work, the case was sratched and faded, and the battery compartment was corroded.
I sort all of this in the video, along with a belt change, head clean, etc. as part of a full stripdown.
I hope you enjoy the end result.

Hey, you said you were going to desolder the speaker wires! LOL. I was following that. I used your video to help me dismantle a particularly sad specimen. It seems to have been dropped, so lots of broken plastic inside. The mechanism is fortunately held quite stably with one screw. There is also a ton of black crumb-like debris. I don't know what it is - it's not disintegrated sponge from the battery compartment as that is still there. There's a fair bit of corrosion, so it may have been dropped into a river or something :-( The motor still runs but the belt is too stretched out to drive the capstan when a tape is in. The head is also quite corroded except for the tape path. I don't know if the head still works as I can't get the tape to move. I'll get a belt and see how it goes. Cheers.

Hey, thanks for watching! Yeah, I think I got by with leaving the speaker connected in the end! I'm glad you found this useful. Not sure what has disintegrated inside yours though - although you may find out when you get it running 😁These are pretty resilient units, so hopefully a decent cleanup and lube, and go from there. I would imagine your battery springs have had it, but new ones are at least available. The belts don't tend to go gooey on these - just a bit dry and lose their grip - so a new one will of course help no end. I love these units - so let me know how you get on with yours! Thanks again 👍

Quick question, I have one of these and the rubber belt is worn out, so I was wondering where I can find replacements?

Thanks for watching. I use Decktech belts in the UK. You'll need a flat belt in the order of 3mm x 80mm. buymeacoffee.com/retrorestos
