Forget the Sony RX100 M4, the Lumix is just amazing!! Build is great and the shots are amazing, the detail is unheard of! Sony to me is just to bright in all shots compared to the Lumix. More natural settings default. Always was a Sony fan, but Lumix took me by storm with this one, A M A Z I N G!!!!

I really would have preferred a sample of image quality of Sony HX90 Vs TZ80 as ultimately this is what most people would like to see. If you have such a video please let me know thanks. The trick is to shoot various objects using say the program auto mode and see which gives better results.

Down to, always for me, image quality, so we wait for cameras web site comparisons. I know they have the same sensor, but Panasonics are often noisier and less sharp. If comparable though, I'll indeed pass on selfie LCD and 4K for a touch screen and 10x, not to mention that fascinating (yet unproven though) post-focus. Great stuff as always though Sir, thanks!

I'm confused, you compare the EVFs and say the Sony is better because of left/right eye dominance, but the EVFs are located exactly the same place above the screen, you're going to be smushing nose against the screen with the Sony too.

I've been looking at the RX100 M3 and the Canon G7X M2. But now I see the Limix ZS100. We travel and take a mixture of stills and video. The zoom is very appealing to me but the lack of an articulating screen is a let down. Which one performs better overall? I was looking for a G7X vs ZS100 comparison.

Great review!! I am torn between these two cameras. The Lumix would be an idea travel camera for my wife, but I secretly lust for the SONY as a B or C camera for my SONY FS5. I like the SONY's ability to shoot SLOG (externally, as internal 8 bit sucks for SLOG), slomo and the built in ND filter (why don't more camera's have this???), but I think the Lumix is a better, more flexible fit for my wife. The difference in cost isn't a deterrent, but I have to cater to my wife's need for a travel camera more than my video needs. Again, thanks for the review. Lots of very valid information for the sake of comparisons between these two products.

Any ideas on the following? Im looking for a big sensor compact camera. I have the rx100m3 in mind, but I stumbled across the Nikon DL24-85. Which one would you choose? Also, is there anything in that size-range with a bigger sensor? the Lx-100 seems to be the only thing that I can find, but, as I read earlier, the sony outperforms the lx-100 in image quality even with the smaller sensor.

I noticed that when you turned on both cameras, the color balance of the SONY's screen has a red/magenta cast, while the Lumix screen matched the desktop. Its possible that the white balance was set to something different on the SONY, but that wouldn't cause it to go red/magenta. What are your thoughts about the color accuracy of the screens on these cameras? Have you experienced over heating issues with the RX100?

Thanks for the comparison. There is a BIG problem with the ZS100. It has no stabilization in 4k and possibly somewhat dubious stabilization in 1080. This feature is a huge importance for any owner of a compact camera used for travel and video, but I cannot find a single, properly done demonstration of this anywhere on any review. There are some who attempt it but they either point the camera at themselves or zoom in far too much to give the stabilization a chance to show at its best. I suspect the ZS100 and ZS200 have flawed image stabilization but I hope to be proved wrong.

Thanks for this video. Panasonic has a interesting lineup or line of camera products. The menu system, 4K, Post Focus/Focus Stacking, Panasonic Touchscreen are excellent. Bridge: Hope #Panasonic #Lumix will update the FZ2000/FZ2500/FZH1. Advanced Compact 1" sensor size: All-in-on-Body - Would be very interesting if Panasonic could combine all the good features of Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS200, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX10 in one body and add : * Articulated TouchScreen ( Tilting or fully articulated). I think Vloggers love fully articulated. (LX10 = Yes - EVF, ZS200 = No) * EVF (LX10 = No - ZS200 = Yes) * Hotshoe ( (LX10 = No - ZS200 = No) * Mic jack (LX10 = No - ZS200 = No) * Headphones jack (LX10 = No - ZS200 = No) * Flash (LX10 = Yes - EVF, ZS200 = Yes) * Focal Length : 20mm to XXmm (FF Equivalent) - Smarphones still cannot beat digital cameras with their optics. I think the 1" sensor, compact offering opportunities to do live feed, the new Shoot+Edit_in_camera+Share (apps getting better) are a good way to put a technology gap between smartphones and digital compact cameras. The All-In-One-Body is a key. Thanks.

I had a Sony RX100 iv and replaced it with the Panasonic TZ100 (U.K. version of the ZS100) after only six weeks. The Sony is limited in its zoom reach and I found the pop up EVF more of an inconvenience to use, rather than adding proper value to the camera. On the other hand the Panasonic has it all, the zoom, the picture quality plus an instantly accessable EVF, albeit being somewhat smaller (I'm a spectacle wearer and have no issues what so ever). I do feel this guy is slightly Sony biased, personally, the Panasonic is by far the better camera. As a point to note, although this guy says the build quality of the Panasonic isnt up to that of the Sony. The Panasonic is very solid and very well engineered, being an engineer myself, I'm qualified enough to say so. So save your hard earned pennies and buy the much better value Panasonic.

Hi Bob, I just bought this ZS100 a week ago and found this review. I set my camera to 70mm and the best aperture it can achieve is f/4.5 at this setting. I know this may be too late to help you make a decision, but hopefully it can help others wanting to know. Even at f/4.5, you can set the ISO to 1600 or 3200 and still have excellent resolution. I am truly loving this little camera over my Pentax K-3 DSLR (version 1) for a travel camera as it is way lighter and quite versatile. Oh yes, I also do not need to carry around 3 lenses with me everywhere I go.

  • @FazerWiz

Don't confuse the metal body on the RX100 with build quality. It's a very thin alloy which marks and dents easily. I dropped mine whilst it was in a thick leather case from about 16" onto a hard table and it broke (£130 repair). My friend took his to the beach and a gust of wind blew fine sand into the air - his had to go back to Sony too. Yes the Sony is a marvel, but it's too fragile to take everywhere. The Sony sensor is stacked and is slightly superior IMHO. Also the bright lens is a plus, the viewfinder is merely a wonderful novelty on a camera of this size and for the very rare occasions you actually need it, the Lumix one works fine. Shame about the screen not flipping, that's a real minus, but if you're into video, the zoom and 5-axis IS on the Lumix, combined with it's price makes it a no-brainer.

I'm a very simple and know not-a-thing about photography person. I just want a simple, easy to use (literally point and shoot, and wanna see the picture on the camera screen, nothing more). All I need is the picture quality a bit above iPhone. Few years ago, I bought a very basic Sony WX150, super fast to turn on and off, great just simple point and shoot on EASY mode. WX150 was so pocket friendly, I bought its "twin" the QX10. Both WX150 and QX10 was sooo small and easy to use, I actually took over 2,000 pix when I was in Rome and Vatican. I would love the RX100IV, but Dear Sony, you just priced me out of the game. Hello Panasonic, we're going to Paris together. I like it cheap! (okayyy fine, affordable, price-friendly blah, blah, blah).

What concerns me most is taking photos of birds in tree's in not the most perfect of light conditions. The lumix wins on that. The 250mm equivalent zoom lens is it. Ok we have people that'd want a constant f2.8 lens but professionals know that this type of lens on a camera like this would be big, heavy and expensive. It would at least double the cost and weight. Therefore totally defeating the object of it being a pocket camera or reasonable size weight and price. On top of that it wouldn't be worth trying to make as so few people would buy it. Understanding the technical aspects of photography and the development of multimillion dollar business are 2 separate thing's

The Lumix has ridiculously good stabilization in FHD and 4K, the 5 axis stabilization is just amazing at how it well it copes with even *deliberate* shaking. This also helps when taking long focal length photos, to get lower stops and keep large depths of field in focus too. I shot a Dynamic B&W photo with a 2.25 mile depth of field at 79mm and everything from the stones in front of me to the mountain 2.25 miles away was in focus.

At 3 min you say the Sony EFV is superior. The Lumix EFV stands out from the screen more than the sony, and you can turn off the touch screen when using the EFV. Don't agree with those two comments. Both are great cameras, not sure the Sony of $250-$300 better performing. The high-speed 4K video/photo on the Lumix is great. Also, it is metal, not plastic. Maybe you should take this video down.

now the ZS100 is $549 - Sony is hailed for something amazing - a feat to fit their lens - with their new RX100 VI at 24-200mm range - yet in 2016 the Zs100 had 25-250mm and now the Zs200 with 25-360mm - both with 20mp 1 inch sensor The key is one needs both and Sony as the LX10 and RX100IV is more of a comparison as focal lengths so different - so Sony RX100 M V and RX100m VI - or the Panasonic Lumix LX10 and ZS200 - A point with fixed EVF - is faster access VS having to push up EVF so not all better - but yes higher res (LX10 $547 ZS100 $549) (RX100mv $948 RX100 m VI $1200 ) so big big price difference -
