    Thanks a lot, Jason. It’s interesting to see that the most useable GH6 review out there comes from a Sony user. Having used Panasonic / Olympus gear for about a decade I need more than a few nice specs to be convinced to opt for this or that system. As you have emphasized, the many direct controls really make a difference and so does the excellent touch screen. Even if I did not have a single m43 lens yet, I would still have a strong preference for the system since one can get excellent primes for USD 300. The entire kit is relatively light weight and suitable for many use cases (the most obvious exception is sports photography - Olympus and FF are better suited for it). Keep up the excellent work!

    Great review! I've watched hours and hours of reviews and first impressions of the GH6 before buying it, and this is by far the best review I've seen. Thanks! As I am coming mainly from the photographic side I felt happy about the new sensor, the great color rendition and the little minor changes Panasonic implemented (like that you can set up the camera to zoom into the focus area rather than the center of the image when you playback). I am struggling with the many different types of video recording options though. I simply don't get why one would need which recording format and what advantages the one format has over the other ==> I will work on this ;-) and probably will find a KZread help on this.

    Thank you very much Michael :) I really appreciate your comments and the powerful GH6 options on this camera are incredible! As far as the video formats go I can certainly help you out. Different formats have different purposes... What you need to consider first in my opinion, is what you plan on doing with the video? Do you plan on editing the video in an advanced program like Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier? Or do you plan on sharing the video straight out of camera? Or something else perhaps?

    Good video. In a professional environment, the automatic focus is worth 0, everything that the GH6 provides and the quality it gives is incredible. And I wanted to clarify one thing, take a look at the issue of blur etc... an M4/3 can give the same blur as a full frame, it's just a matter of knowing "really" what the real equivalence is, that a 60 is a 120...yes, but no.

  • @Jason_Hermann

    @Jason_Hermann

    2 жыл бұрын

    thank you for the comments and yes I 'm aware and agree with the blur, but I was more referring to using the same lens. 12-24mm f/2.8 will not yield the same as a 12-24mm f/2.8 on a full frame. I totally get you can achieve it with different focal lengths, apertures, and even with speed boosters, to get that killer depth of field. Sometimes you just don't have the space for the higher focal length lens method in particular though... Again, I totally hear what you are saying, but the full frame does have a huge advantage in that particular area is all I was trying to get at. All the best, Jay

    if you get the metabones .64 speedbooster, it unleashes it. Great shallow depth of field, even with a 2.8 (converts to 1.8 with speedbooster), also widens it to s35, almost full frame. I also shoot full frame s5's

    Thank you for the tutorials. I have 2 questions regarding aperture and shutter priority modes specifically: Why am I not able to see shutter speed values(see SS numbers change on the screen) while in Aperture priority mode? I do understand this mode controls Aperture but on other cameras while in Aperture, you can still see when and what shutter speed changes to when for example you over expose or decrease ISO. On gh6 there's is no SS reading even though I know it's changing internally. Is there a way to have it displayed on my screen while in Aperture priority? That way I know what SS the camera chooses when I adjust ISO or aperture? Question no.2: Can you still focus manually while in either shutter speed or Aperture priority? Does focusing manual when in one of the two modes have any effect to how light works or its absolutely okay? Thank you so much.

    Your videos are always very nice. Thanks to share them. Maybe I'm wrong because I've only been using GH6 for 2-3 days but ...... I have problems with AF. But not with continuous AF, but with fixed AF. I have configured the camera to follow people, but I certainly happen to film the countryside and the streets many times without the people and I never change the camera configuration. Almost every time the GH6 goes out of focus for a few tenths of a second with the shots fixed on tripod. I see this in almost all the clips. I sold the GH5 for this problem and I'm certainly not getting better with the GH6. But then again, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe I need to put the switch on "S" instead of leaving it on "C". But if that's the real problem, it's a nuisance. How do you concentrate on the video, if every time you have to put your hand to the controls of the GH6 for the AF and ... not only?

    I am curious on few things: If we film 5.7k without zooming, later crop 100mm or 200mm on certain portion for some nice scene, will it be quite close to APSC or Full Frame sensor normal 4k zoom in to record? What specs of computer need for handling 5.7k or 6k video? I did get answer from some other video reply but need more to confirm it. Also, can anyone give me a good reason why we still need Full Frame sensor 4k camera since we have the 5.7k or 6k 4/3 sensor camera give solid result other than the sensor size reason? Not so good focusing as usual? (Compare to other Panasonic model, any improvement?)

  • @Jason_Hermann

    @Jason_Hermann

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Booship and interesting questions... You can get top quality results with the GH6 no question, but the AF is not near as good as Sony, Canon, and Nikon when it comes to tracking subjects in particular. If that does not matter to you, then the GH6 is a fantastic option for sure. Larger sensors when compared to the M43 will offer better low light performance at higher ISO values in general, but the GH6 is no light weight in this area and still performs really good. The larger sensors also offer more depth of field control when using large aperture lenses. This also results in larger heavier lenses as well. As far as cropping goes, you can only crop in so much after the fact while still maintaining good quality. The GH6 can record open gate which means you are getting the top and bottom of the sensor, which is usually cropped out when recording 4k on most cameras. Therefore the extra resolution is on the top and bottom mostly. So you do get some room to up and down, but no that much "zoom" if you want to maintain true 4k resolution without any loss in quality. There is a lot going on here, so I tried to keep my answer easy to understand as possible. I hope that helps, Jay

    When compared to the my A7C or A7 IV, the AF is not near as good. Perhaps bad is to strong of a word? On the new S5 II the AF is much closer to the Sony and Canons though, so clearly Panasonic is on the move and catching up with this one spec a lot of people really want. All the other specs on the GH6 are fantastic and often better than the Sony and Canon's I have tested...

    @@razfilmstv Yes, but I did not make this video for just you, so people need to know if they were thinking this would be a good option for weddings, as in my opinion, they would be mistaken when compared to the competition as far as fast accurate Auto focus is concerned. This camera is a fantastic option, but not for high speed auto focus applications. It is what it is my friend. This by no means the GH6 is a "bad" camera or anything like that. Each camera has it's strengths and the GH6 is no different. The GH6 shines for video where fast AF is not required and has fantastic image quality, stabilization is best in class, build quality and design is best in class, waveforms, and all sorts of other features the competition is lacking.... I had so much fun using the GH6, so I would say the user experience is also one of the best in class....

    What would you recommend for KZread The GH6 or the Sony a7 IV?

    I would go for the A7 IV if you don't have to record for long periods of time. The A7 IV can overheat.... The GH6 won't over heat. With hat being said I have not had any overheating issues with either my A7C or A7IV, but have several friends who have had issues with the A7 IV in particular.

    I like how you changed my wording around and then quoted it as if that is what I said. Fascinating and a first for my comments section after 10 plus years! Thanks Topshelf ;)

    I recently got the gh6 and have used it a couple times so far but I'm getting static/noise in vlog, even during the day. Is this happening with anyone else? Some of the images I've seen from this thing are incredible, but this static/noise issue is driving me nuts. Some of the luts I've put on improve the images but some images are straight garbage. I knew exactly what to do with iso on my gh5 and its limits, but what's the deal here?

    Hi Anthony, I did see some significant noise in my footage, but I am new to the Panasonic camera system, so I just attributed this to the smaller sensor than what I am used to using. However, having the "correct" exposure is also critical to limiting the noise and depending on the format you might need to alter settings. I wish I could offer you more, but I never used the GH5 to compare and offer some insight in that regard. I hope that helps a little? All the best, Jay

    I bought a gh6 and I have a strange problem. Well, the recording on the card starts 2 seconds after pressing the shutter. Is it normal?

    Well it takes a second to start recording, but 2 seconds sounds longer than I recall... I don't have the camera anymore to test this for you or I would..

    We can see when the guy exposing, is more professional doesn't use LARGE microphones ( fancy ) who just cover the face , very well illuminated by light and the video it show, has the quality not just use something like lut or whatever who damage the video just to impress people who doesn't have knowledge about this...but one thing is true if you want to record video with all features nothing like a very good camcorder

    Typical shallow video review by a non serious video shooter. Same old dribble of the amateur...autofocus, autofocus, autofocus. Make much of autofocus and little of full VLOG, absolutely gorgeous 5.7k prores HQ to 30p, 5.7k 10bit 420 to 60p, DCI 4k (not in a sony A1 even) to 60p in prores HQ & 800mb 422 10bit, vastly superior type B memory card (to sony's ridiculous type A card), phenomenally deep, well executed video toolset, some of the best image stabilisation and oversampled 120p out there...oh, the autofocus is not really quite good. And, with focus limiter the DFD autofocus is actually very good. I have extensively used the GH6 on personal and professional work with the 10-25, 12 1.4 and 42.5 1.2 for the last few months and have been truly blown away by the quality of the pictures and video (graded in Resolve). Don't believe off balance reviews that harp on AF and neglect to give an accurate review of the camera. The quality of the pics and video and the usability of the GH6 is staggering at this price, and quite good at any price.

    We harp on AF because every other manufacturer has managed to figure it out. Sure the GH can run a mile in a minute, solve complex math equations, feed orphans, but somehow still doesn't know how to wipe its own ass. Sad.
