I think the 3DO would have been more successful if "Walking Near a Parrot Simulator" had actually been released to the public.

The 3DO was way advanced for it's time, Too bad it was too expensive and was mis-marketed.

It was state-of-art, by 1993 standards. The 3DO soon became yesterday's news when the Sony Playstation was announced.

Was the price that killed it. Had some good games but not one single killer app as such. Return fire is good but would you have spent five or six hundred on one in the early 90s knowing for less/half of that the playstation saturn and n64 were all coming. Is cool now to get them cheap and the fz1 is still a smart looking machine in terms of shell case. I like a good few games on it. But can see why it failed. Had to make money back from the hardware due to the business model and towards end when they got real about it it was too late. Redesigned and down to about a hundred quid or so towards end. I like that I paid forty quid for my launch model fz1 and it still works. Drawer, laser all good. Most disc based consoles fail but you did get what you paid for. At the time it was stunning little did we know it would fail like it did. Was same with jaguar first time I seen doom running in a store on one I was blown away, looked so fast n smooth and the sprites looked huge. Ah the 90s...

if they had focused on games and priced the thing realistically, it may have stood a chance. I mean, "data retrieval"? Seriously?

Streets of rage original, not even II, the original, is more fun to play than rotating shit on screen.i was there when this garbage came out. Hardly impressed me.

Yeah...a 486 without a GPU or the proper amount of RAM. Make no mistake a 486DX2@66MHZ with 8mb of RAM would absolutely smoke a 3DO. Hell a base bottom 486 with say a Diamond Edge card would just tear a 3DO to pieces. We wont each get into what a 3DFX Voodo card equipped 486DX4 would do...;) I had a 3DO and I loved it but comparing it to a 486 is something they shouldn't do. Not that this is fair as the devs that produced it got screwed...but a 486 can run Doom without any issues at all. Doom was built to run on the old 486 machines.
