Thanks for this review. I was looking for a 4K UHD blu ray player and after I saw this review decided to go with this one. I received it today. I watched a DVD on there and I was really impressed with the ups calling. I have some 4K UHD blu rays coming tomorrow so will be looking forward to seeing those.

I just upgraded my 4k player from xbox one s to panasonic ub820 tried dvd, bluray and 4k disc I'm so glad I upgraded all disc formats look amazing on it

It really is a massive change going from a console to a player!

Another great video. What a bargain! I’m onto my second Panasonic disc player. A few years ago I had a midrange Bluray player before I upgraded to their premium 4K last year. The tweaking you can do both with image quality and sound is amazing. You’ll not be disappointed!

This is tricky to answer because it depends on many things: the type of display you use, what you expect or prefer in an image and even if you are happy with the quality of the more basic model which is indeed very good too. Also if you’re expecting the difference like 720p to 4K to see value then probably not. The improvements are there but more subtle for a better image

I got the same bundle about a year ago in a sale, except it also came with blade runner 2049 too. Mortal engines is such a good 4k disc, the film is ok but the sound and visuals are amazing. The player is really good, I agree with the dvd upscaling, makes them watchable again. The only issue I've found is if you pause the player for more than a couple of minutes it skips a little as it catches back up.

Blade Runner 2049 is fantastic! I’ve owned it for a few years in 4K but still need to see how it looks! I’ll be sure to check out Mortal Engines soon, even if the film isn’t the best, it’ll be nice to have a fantastic reference quality disc in the collection. The upscaling works super well, I was very surprised! Thank you for letting me know about the pausing, something I’ll look out for in the future. Thank you for the great comment! 😃

I just bought this 2 weeks ago. They're on sale for $100 US and they had open box one for $70 US which I bought. It does the job! Not a smart player or nuttin, but I got a roku and smart TV for that. And the 4k player will save wear n tear on your gaming console. Good purchase!

Good job! I’m looking today, for this exact model, and it’s $200.

I'm planning to get this same player, although refurbished and not as good a deal price wise, this review convinced me that this was the player to go for.

I hadn't seen this older video. At the end you mentioned Buffalo 66 and I had just ordered that on Blu-ray last night to upgrade my DVD. It was the last thing I've ordered and I've never seen it be shown in another video before

I bought this Blueray player to see what UHD disks are like and I have to be honest it does such a good job of Blu-rays and also dvds I have stopped using my Oppo as this is better and it only cost me £80 from Panasonic. Your review made me buy it and I just wanted to say thank you as all my movies look even better.

It went super quickly! There's a great region free player on Amazon that's around £150 which has a 3 year warranty and has worked wonders for me!

Hey fella! Just a quick question, have you found any means of reducing the subtitle brightness on the player? We watch ALL of our movies with subs but HDR really doesn't adjust for the brightness of the screen / subtitles. Something super dark can be absolutely ruined by the massive eye-watering text at the bottom!!

I actually own Panasonics flagship 4k player that they brought out last year and if that player is anything like that your in for a treat Leon. So many settings on it to play with. Hope u like it

Great video! Felt much shorter than the actual duration. What are the songs you used in the video? Also, I was wondering if you (or anyone else in the comments section) would recommend this over the Sony UBP-X500 and, if so, why? I do not care for smart features as I simply need a player to play DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-Ray discs. Thanks.

Was really pleased to hear these 4K players enhance the quality of ordinary DVDs, as I have just treated myself to a Sony 4K machine for my birthday and have TONS of horror DVDs (plus many non-horror) to try out, including CREEP, which I absolutely love. You do some great pickup videos too. Keep up the good work.

How is it with more natural & subtle colors? I watch a lot of Fantasy Live action and animation, but sometimes between formats the colors are overly saturated vs the intended saturation.

I'm not technical expert when it comes to players but the colours look fantastic on the player for me! It's a solid 4K player, especially for the price!

Do you still have this player? I just bought one off Amazon and it will be delivered tomorrow, just wondering about the longevity of it and how it’s held up

I recommend that one too, it's really good. I had to pay a bit more though to have it chipped.

Nice enjoy i use the Sony UBP x800m2 cost me 300 quid but it as a gift does make the difference the are some 4k players for 900 quid madness

I myself am looking into a 4k Blu-ray player and this Panasonic model is a best seller on Amazon and according to rigorous testing, this actually came in 4th in quality to performance under a Sony in 3rd and 2 more Panasonic players in the top 2 spots. I'm eventually planning to switch completely to PC for gaming and just have a dedicated 4k Blu-ray player. I'll bet the wormhole scene in Interstellar would look absolutely stunning on my setup as I have a 65" LG CX OLED. ATM whenever I watch physical content it's via my Xbox Series X. However looking at the Panasonic DP-UB9000 Reference Class 4k Blu-ray player, it definitely meets my needs better than the 150 model. As you'll get even better picture quality especially with upscaling lower quality content, and Dolby Vision capability.

Did you ever try modifying the player to be region-free? If so, did it work and was it relatively easy?

Don't most TVs upscale to 4K? Is the upscaler technology in the player better?

So I was on the fence about getting a 4K player since I have an Xbox Series X and I thought it was a really good player. But it doesn’t support hdr10+ and I recently purchased a Samsung UST projector that supports hdr10+ and I really want use my 4K videos to its full potential. Your video convinced me to purchase this player seeing how you upgraded from a console as well and how you could see the massive improvements on your 4K videos!

I’m so glad you decided to pick up the player, I’ve been using it for a few months now and the upgrade on not only 4K discs but also Blu-rays and DVDs was very shocking to me (in a good way) and it makes me less hesitant to pick up DVDs now as there’s a decent chance they’ll look solid!

It's always gonna look better as it is constantly at the highest possible setting and doesn't even need wifi etc

Do you know how it plays CD’s... I have a blu ray player that I got from Walmart but the sound is no where near as good as my JVC player/ recorder. I would like a 4 k player but also like to play my CD’s as well

One of the best deals I’ve ever came across! I had to pick it up for that price and the fact it came with some discs is a bonus! If you can find one for a similar price, I’d highly recommend importing it but the only thing I’d mention is you’d need to find US power cables/adaptors, as I’m pretty sure other countries use different outlets! And both Equalizer films have cuts, it’s very strange... from what I recall, it’s only to about 5 seconds of each film, very bizarre... thank you for the comment! 😃

My Sonos surround doesn't work with DTS movies with this player. Actually sound a lot better on Xbox

That definitely wasn't intentional, haha! I'd highly recommend this player, after having it for a few weeks and watching a variety of Blu-rays on it, it does feel like some are 4K discs, believe it or not!

The dark tower was given away free! So you got 4 free 4K movies and a drink coaster

Nice player, I’m too cheap to spend money on a player when I’ve got a PS5, it’s actually produces good picture, but for £60... Although I need a region A player for my Friday the 13th boxset for a good price

Xbox is super loud though... I was thinking about replacing Xbox one to one s but dunno... My Xbox one is basically just a paper weight, I only ever used it for halo 5 hahaha

You lucky so and so. I bought this as well, in fact I bought 2 as I'm giving one as a present. Neither came with any free movies. At least I'm getting £1.72 cashback for each one. 😂 I use an Xbox One S but to me it's a faff playing a disc and I hardly played any. I think when I bought it in an offer it was the cheapest way to get a 4K player. I will definitely be using it more and I actually watched Everest 4K on the day I received it which was the first 4K disc I ever bought.
