A lovely, smooth-operating commercial grade VCR that I had the opportunity to borrow.

I have a PAL version (I'm in the UK) and it's my workhorse transfer machine for my business. Truly fantastic machine. The PAL machines have an additional switch (there's a gap on this one, one of the two-way switches) for PAL, NTSC or hybrid (4.43 - it's complicated) playback.

If only we found these in thrift stores, I would definitely buy that. I did find an S-VHS VCR at a thrift store once, but the only buttons that worked were the power and eject buttons, the others for some reason didn't want to work. Despite this being borrowed, it's a very convenient unit.

I think I'll have the opportunity to borrow this again for longer. I discovered a bunch of S-VHS cassettes at the station, so I'll eventually get to digitizing those once I do the Betacam and U-Matic tapes.

11:23 I like how you pointed out this is a very robust machine unlike the other Panasonics. Good info!

How much would a machine like that cost when it was released ?

This (or something similar) would be my dream analog VCR. So sexy. Unfortunately I don't have a setup which could make use of its advanced features. If only all equipment had genlock... Btw, what are you using to digitize the tapes you record? Are you using a Digital8/MiniDV camcorder or something different? Just curious.

I played the footage into the video input of the camcorder, and recorded it onto the DVCAM tape.

6:22 that remote jack is for an edit controller. This is a player/recorder but not an Edit Machine. Lots of memories.

at 6:21, i believe that remote pin are there for recording onto the tape when you're on location away from the station , though i can be wrong.

Can you please show the entire bottom side of the mechanism if it's possible? I've never seen any pictures of it.

That looks like a HF rig.

Would you happen to know if a PAL model can play NTSC as well? On the door it says both.

Why would the TV station want to keep this?
