Cartagena, in Colombia, reminded me somewhat of Panama City; a colonial era fort whose walls enclose the old town, and a sand bar transformed into a string of white and silver high-rises that are reminiscent of Floridian/Australian beach condos. Really contrasting, and makes quite an effect when approaching it by sea.

Just like its worth pointing out that such condos are particular to Florida within the US, its also worth pointing out those condos are particular to Gold Coast for Australia

Just got home from a bike ride in cinta costera, it’s an incredible 2-3 hour ride that spans from the start of cinta costera in Paitilla, to the end of causeway (more than 20 km if you include the ride back) basically it’s a perfect plan for running or biking, you Can start in Paitilla and end up in causeway drinking a lemonade to refresh, or rent small pedal cars, bikes, and do much other activities.

Nice change up from your regular repertoire. Panama City is one of those cities with gorgeous skyscrapers that mysteriously gets missed. I only first discovered this a year or two back. As a fellow City Geek, it got me wondering what else was out there that I had been missing. So here are some other puzzling cities that have tremendously beautiful skylines that seem to go unnoticed. 1) Bangkok, Thailand 2) Manila, Philippines 3) Gold Coast,Australia (amazing coastal skyline!) And closer to home…. 4) Fortaleza, Brazil ( not nearly as beautiful as some, but has over a 100! along the coast) And my favorite…very similar to Panama City…. 5) Cartagena, Colombia If you’re pressed for time, just look up Cartagena & Gold Coast. P.S. I can’t believe you did that zip line! Glad you’re still alive! Lol 😎🥇⭐️🏆♥️👍🏙David inHouston, Texas

I spent some time there. The old city and the waterfront trail were the only great spots. The towers were haphazard and we're plunked randomly and disrupted rational Street patterns. And the city was too car centric. Great skyline and the Canal are great

A lot was left out regarding its history. The area that became Panama was part of Colombia until the Panamanians revolted, with U.S. support, in 1903. In 1904, the United States and Panama signed a treaty that allowed the United States to build and operate a canal that traversed

Colon is terrible, but you were so close to the breathtaking San Blas islands out in the crystal clear waters of the Carribean, a Kuna Yala autonomous region. There are several small islands you can stay on. The one I stayed on was the size of a football field and was surrounded by coral. Nothing like spending a few days doing nothing but snorkeling and eating fresh lobster caught right off the island that day.

Portobello and Fort San Lorenzo are just outside the city. Fascinating history. Pirate Henry Morgan gained access to Panama City by overcoming the defenses of these forts on the Caribbean then marching across the isthmus to the Pacific Coast to destroy and raid Panama City. Francisco Pizarro came through Panama on his way to conquer and plunder Peru. Panama's history doesn't start and end with the canal.
