I watched this movie many times with my wife, we both loved it, and even our daughter learned how to play it in piano, and sadly she passed away this summer from cancer, now everything time i listen this song i can't stop crying, but i know she is with princes Ofelia in a better world with no pain. love you, I miss you.

If you think about it, both of their lives mirrored each other. Both had to protect their brother, both had knives as their weapon, and both had a secret passage (In mercedes case the hidden room on the floor and on Ophelia´s case the chalk). That is why they both clicked so well together.

The implication was that the fantasy world was not real which is why only she could see it. It was her escape and coping mechanism of dealing with the realities of a terrible national civil war. However, her fantasy world guided her in making ethical decisions in the real world which is what makes this movie even more powerful.

It was only one year after I and my son could escape dying in a war, when I first saw the movie. This movie was so emotionally intense to me, as it reminds me of too many feelings and situations that I lived during the war. Since that day, I keep thinking of what could happen to my son, if I died in that stupid war. Will he also resort to imaginary world to escape the brutality of our world! I managed to learn playing piano after, and the first thing that I played was this music! Nowadays my son plays it also, and it makes me sad and thankful each time he plays it to me. It's just amazing how can a movie, like this one, express deeply some feelings that we are unable to express by words

This was one of those rare times in school when my entire class was brought to silence and tears when watching a movie. It was 11th grade (AP Spanish III) and we were watching Pan's Labyrinth. By the time the movie was over, there was not a dry eye in the classroom...and complete silence for the remainder of the class period.

well the movie was split in two genres, the brutality of the the real world and fantasy. this leads to two possibilities: one is that what Ofelia sees are real, only invisible to the human eyes or two, the fantasy was the effect of reading the books. In some cases, humans tend to discharge themselves from brutality and horror and begin to plug themselves into their imaginary world- a mental disorder for short. Either way, it was a beautifully sad movie, the casts did an amazing job

I think it's allegorical; in the film it gets progressively more real just like a fantasy in real life gets more "real" the more you escape from it. At the end as someone mentioned at the chase there is a direct influence of the imaginary world with the real one. I think this represents the final tipping point where the fantasies and ideas of the individual begin to affect their judgement and actions in real life. At that point who can really say for sure if it's fantasy or reality. You never want to lose yourself that much to ideas but it does happen to a lot of people.

Claudia Reed yea but that doesn't mean he did all the work. The director generally has the final say on a screenplay and they design the look and feel. I bet you consider bettlejuice to be a tim burton film right? well Burton didn't write the screenplay or produce, same with speilberg and jaws. if they didn't direct it's hardly their movie.

Pan was the god of the rural wilderness and mountains, and was the patron god of shepherds and their flocks. Fauns were often called Panes, as the original fauns weren't just followers of Pan, but they were also his sons. ... Both fauns and satyrs were soldiers for their respective gods and could be vicious in battle.
