Shivalingas installed by Daksha, Indra, Chandra, Rama, Kumaraswamy...
Pancharamas are luxurious fields for Shiva. The Skanda Purana describes the topography of these Kshetras where the Panchakshari mantra sounds. Tarakasura, a demon, does great penance for Lord Paramesvara and earns Atmalinga. When all the deities pray to Lord Vishnu to grant freedom from Tarakasura, who is tormenting the hills with pride, he says that Tarakasura will die in the hands of Kumaraswamy. Kumara, who went to war against Tarakasura, breaks the Atmalinga on the neck of Swami. The Atmanlinga in pieces fell in five places. They are called Pancharamas. If you visit these pancharamas even once in your lifetime, you will never have to repeat them. Let's see the special features of the Pancharama Kshetras in both the Godavari and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Draksharamam
As the first of the Pancharams, the holy shrine that flourishes as one of the Trilinga Kshetras is Draksharama. It is located in Ramachandrapuram of East Godavari district. It is said that it got the name Draksharama as it was the place where Dakshaprajapati Yajna was performed. Devotees believe that Draksharam is the birthplace of Goddess Parvati. Here Ammavaru Srichakrasthita Manikyambadevi is resting. This is one of the Ashtadasa Shaktipeethas. Chalukya King Bhima is said to have built this temple. Here Swami is measured as Bhimeswara. The height of Mahalingam in this temple is 60 feet. The sanctum sanctorum has two floors. Priests anoint the Mahalinga from the upper floor. The Shiva Lingam here is half black and half white.
Amararamam
Amarararam is the second of the pancharams. It is located on the bank of Krishna river in Guntur district. Here Swami is appearing to the devotees as Amareshwara. Height of Amareswara Lingam is 35 feet. A 15 feet linga is seen in the sanctum sanctorum. The remaining 20 feet is said to be underground. Sthalapurana says that this linga was consecrated by Indra, the king of gods. Hence the name of this field is Amaravati.
Ksheerararamam
Ksheeraram is located in Palakollu of West Godavari district. It is believed that the Sivalinga here was consecrated by the Sitarams during the Treta Yuga. Here Shiva Lingam is seen in white color. Swami is also known as 'Koppu Ramalingeshwaru' due to the pointed top of the lingam. Here the lord appears as a north-east face. Kausika Muni's son Upamanyu asked Lord Shiva for the milk he needed for Nityabhisheka. The blessed Lord created the ocean of milk and made the pushkarini ooze milk. That's why it became milky...with time it became milky. The 125 feet temple gopuram built with 9 storeys is particularly impressive with its amazing sculptures. Chalukya kings built this temple.
Somaramam
Somaram is the fourth of the Pancharams. This temple is located near Bhimavaram in West Godavari district. The special feature of this Shivalinga is that the Shivalinga, which is white in normal days, turns brown on Amavasya. Back to the full moon shining white. It is said that this specialty is due to the moon. The name Somaramam was established for this field because it was consecrated by Soma.
Kumararam
Kumararam is the last of the pancharams. This temple is one kilometer away from Samarlakota of East Godavari district. Kumaraswamy enshrined the Shivlinga here and this place got the name Kumararam. The height of Bhimeswaralingam is 14 feet. A special attraction here is the two-storied sanctum sanctorum. This town is also called Chalukya Bhimavaram. There is historical evidence that the Chalukya king Bhima ruled in the past.
