Pan Am Training Video: Emergency First Care In-Flight (circa mid to late-1980s)
This video is presented for historic purposes and the information presented may be outdated. If you are an aviation professional, please consult with the latest approved training.
This 1980s video was used in flight attendant emergency training programs of many airlines, including Pan Am.
Most of the airline industry worked together in the 1980s to jointly provide the best safety instruction to flight attendants possible and tried to standardize the training approach across the major airlines in cooperation with the FAA and NTSB.
This video was produced by In-Flight Services, an Eastern Airlines Instructional Media Production. Eastern Airlines, Pan American World Airways, United Airlines, and Trans World Airlines (among others) were involved with the production.
Special thanks to Linda Reynolds for saving a collection of safety and training VHS tapes from the Pan Am Flight Academy in Miami, Florida after the airline closed on December 4, 1991.

The woman who was choking earlier is now sitting behind the guy with a broken leg. This is the flight from hell!

Poor Joyce. She's such a sweetheart.
What was in that soup? Lava? Molten steel? The fire and brimstone of hell?

I love how they’re using oxygen for everything lol
Can tell this VHS tape has been played alot!
I think this is from Eastern. Fun to see these vintage airline videos. Thanks for publishing.
Those flight attendants taking care of Joyce better not mess up the galley!!! That belongs to Linda Reynolds and she won’t be happy if you start moving everything around and making a mess 😁😁

Kind of like code sharing I guess...
Interesting, this is a Pan Am video but the intro shows the first aid kit with the Eastern Airlines logo and name.
how hot was that soup??? also what’s the plan for cleaning up the 2 glasses of water she dumped onto the floor while pouring it on his hand
I’ve experienced the Heimlich maneuver before. The pain of a fist being put into your diaphragm means it’s working ;)
The trolley table is hilarious
The heart attack portion of the video is reminding me of a song. I’ll give you 10 internet points if you can find it. “Every time I eat, I get a pain in my chest, and every time I think it’s heartburn it’s cardiac arrest.”
Very informative, thank you for sharing!

Careful... Information presented here is outdated and is being presented here for archival purposes only. It may still have the potential to help but you should take a First Aid course at your earliest convenience to learn what current recommendations are. I'm surprised the channel owner didn't actually edit in a title card to this effect. Could be a liability problem.

@@BBC600 I think by saying it’s from “circa mid 1980s” is good enough no? I would assume information on emergencies would be updated

🎉I recently ordered a Diabetic Meal for a future London to Boston flt on Jet Blue. They don't offer them just Kosher and some other type meal. I found that very strange.

:20 Did that guy just bump his tray with his knees??? That was a dumb thing to do.
I remember the Air Florida accident. Only three of the five survivors are still living. I also remember the World Airways Accident. Apparently the two who were never found were related (Father and Son)They were not supposed to be in the World Airways Flight they were originally booked on PEOPLExpress. I also remember the British Airtours incident
THANK YOU FOR POSTING! HOWEVER this is an EASTERN AIRLINES training video (in the beginning) produced by Eastern Airlines Instructional Media (MIAFX) circa 1990. New Uniforms that replaced the brown "military" style of the 1980s.

Oh brother! That soup scene! Bahahahaha. I’d love to over react to every minor non-situation like that. It would be priceless. You’ve sneezed! I’m calling the ambulance right now! Oh, NO!! This can’t be happening!! This CAN’T be happening!!!!
Serious question, none of the flights in this tape were full, so they could move people to other seats to make more room for the victim. On a full flight (which is way more common now) what do you do?

My guess is those passengers would occupy the jump seats normally used by flight attendants, or have them sit in the aisle.

Ask passengers to sit in seats with other passengers- double up as best as they can. Tough as society gets larger.

This is from Eastern not Pan Am
Regarding the Tokyo crash it was later deemed to be attempted suicide by the pilot.
From the way they acted, You’d think the guy with the tipped over cart had gotten shot.
Um did the flight attendant with the OJ drug that passenger?

Perhaps a slightly specific comment, but yeah, they do have some general medications onboard, like paracetamol or aspirin, but I would imagine naloxone would be one. They would also absolutely have epipens too.
@paulloveless9180

@@uzaiyaro I would imagine for no other reason than naloxone doesn't have hardly any contraindications.
He broke his leg, the drink he requested will be much more appropriate in this situation than the oxygen they put on him 🤦♂️ Also the lady flopping around in an obvious grand mal seizure and the flight attendant says “I think she’s having a seizure “. DO YA THINK???? Noooo I think she’s giving birth. I’m dying with this stuff. I know flight attendants can’t diagnose anything but you definitely know a seizure when you see one😀
