You did that! wow those platters look amazing. I have seen people using this method to melt chocolate: Boil some water on the stove, in a pot. Then you put a bowl with chocolate over the pot while the water is boiling.

As a baker, I think that you put it in the microwave for far too long, meaning if not watched carefully, even the baking chocolate would burn. So, one of the best chocolates you could use for cooking and baking would be the Cadbury Bournville chocolate (available at all supermarkets, except Woolies).
