@@elizaharrison9405 I really don't understand why so many people get mad at Pam here. In my view she handled all of it exceptionally well. To all those pretending that they'd act perfectly stoic when their parents would seemingly random break up apparently over a talk with your own fiancé, I'm not very convinced to say the least. Note also what she said and didn't say to Jim. Yes, she apparently does think he said something bad of sorts, which is a very reasonable assumption. But then what? She does not accuse him of anything concrete without evidence, but confronts him (two very different things). She also listens to him and doesn't entrench herself into an antagonistic position. She then tries to solve the issue herself and is quick to acknowledge that she was in the wrong. Previously, she also doesn't jump to conclusions and claim any ill-intent, because she knows full well that Jim does love her. I don't think any of that is particularly immature really. Frankly, even as an outsider my first assumption was that Jim _accidentally_ mad some kind of maybe off-colour jokes or so that pushed her parents over the edge or something. All things considered, she behaved quite normal.

@@hd-xc2lz Not true, it’s about context. Jim was confused about the situation because he didn’t say anything negative to Pam’s father like “Yeah you should get a divorce” or something like that where he’s actively trying to get Pam’s father to divorce, he only talked to him about how much he loved Pam. So there was that disconnect as to why that conversation somehow lead to Pam’s parent’s divorcing. And plenty of couples don’t mention every single detail in their conversations.

The line "When you're a kid you assume your parents are soulmates, my kids are gonna be right about that." has stuck with me ever since I heard it as a middle schooler. That's all I've ever wanted.
Divorce goes back several generations for both myself and my wife's family. Thus far we've got 18 years under our belt and still going. She's my best friend. Oh we have nights where we fight, where we don't like each other, but we always come back to the commitment we made to one another. Marriage takes work people, can't always rely on feelings. As Ruth Graham once said...(paraphrasing) a good marriage is the union of two good forgivers. It's totally worth the work. As a consequence my kids grow up with a mom and dad who love each other, even on the bad days.

My wife and I came from families that had very few divorces and lots of long marriages. We got married when I was in the Army and had to attend mandatory counseling sessions with the base Chaplain. Met weekly for 6-8 weeks and discussed topics like communication, how to fight fairly, etc. Biggest one was to not go to bed mad, resolve any issues even if you had to stay up all night. Interesting thing about the divorce statistic: Yes 50% end in divorce, but that figure is skewed by people who're on their second and third marriages. People who marry for the first time are less likely to get a divorce (something like 20%? I don't recall). But after your first marriage, you're way more likely to get divorced in followup marriages. Sad, but for first time marriages it gives a little hope.

I haven't ever actually watched the office. Will eventually, but haven't yet. One thing I will say that I love about the show is how they actually want it to look like a real reality tv show (which is super weird to wrap my brain around). They don't just film the emotional scenes like they would normally. They have it so the cameramen are hiding, so it gives the illusion that we are watching a real conversation, not one meant for the camera. It's really neat. One of my favorite shows, modern family, tries to do this. They have the scenes where they are sitting down talking to the audience. And they have scenes where they glance at the camera. They just don't go the extra mile. In modern family, it almost feels like they are just breaking the 4th wall. In the office, they clearly set out to make it feel like the camera is a part of the show. A character of its own. It's super meta, and it works so unbelievably well. It does a great job at making these characters feel real, and have lives outside the show. And are not just actors playing a role.
@amangakhal1674

the whole point of the office is that someone is making a documentry at dunder mifflin so the way they did it was perfect. i personally think they do it in a much better way than modern family as they address that the camera is there in ordinary scenes whilst modern family only uses it in the interviews.

That feeling is one of the hardest things to let go of. It leaves you almost love drunk when it's gone wanting to chase after that feeling just to bask in the glow once more. I never really got why people would do certain things out of love or how any movie or show would idealize love until I felt it for the first time. I'm sad we didn't work out, but I am so glad that I know what I am looking for now and I know I am going to find that feeling again one day.
