No one swims or plays on the beach because the water stinks of algae due to lack of current and ocean circulation. You can see some at 2:40.

I’ve been to Dubai 3 times and it truly is an amazing place. I stayed in Atlantis hotel January-February 2022 and really enjoyed myself. The fact that Palm Jumeirah might not be around for long is all the more reason to visit it, if only to marvel human ingenuity.

Actually, no, the OP is right. Dubai is a transient, mercenary type town that is in a constant state of impermanence. You couldn’t pay me enough to live there. It really has no soul, like a Las Vegas of the Middle East. I find the architecture fascinating, but that will only hold your interest for a short while. Everyone is there for a few years to make money and get out. It has no identity, save a love for money (which is a disgusting, low IQ, pointless life passion). So, no, people who comment here saying that it has no soul are not jealous. They look at an empty stretch of cookie cutter buildings on an empty stretch of manmade beach and see a place devoid of soul. And they are right.

Do people actually "use" the beach? And swim in the water? I didn't see one person actually enjoying the water. Or is the beach front just a status symbol for the rich? "Like eww, we won't actually swim in the water. That would be gross." For a country that's trying to plan ahead for the future when they run out of oil, they are building these "oceanburbs" built for the car. Where do you shop for groceries? A mall? A playground? A park? It's all probably several kilometres away. And the houses look like clones -- scores of the same exact cookie-cut house plans.

To clarify the sea is too shallow to allow any big waves, so it’s extremely safe. Every beach in the world has this problem and all you do to fix it is add sand everyday. But in the palm the beaches are protected with barriers that are maintained daily as an extra lair of protection. It will sink in 100 years but this is also true for every island, in fact the palm jumeira is safer than every beach and island in Florida.

  • @draganabarac01

+Teslandia A. A large majority of immigrant workers (especially from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan) are slaves. They work, eat & sleep where they build. With little or no pay & some food, they work until the building work is finished then if they are not needed further, they have their passports given back to them & sent out of the country to their homelands. That's if they don't die in Dubai before they're released. Dubai is one of the richest cities in the world but it looks disgusting, a bunch of skyscrapers in the middle of the desert. Big fancy buildings in a city thrown together in a decade with absolutely no culture. No thanks. Makes me sad that this "shiny new city" and "biggest everything" mentality is destroying the UAE regions history and culture. Dubai is a plastic land, filled with shiny things to make people go "oooh" here's my wallet, I'll do everything. Dubai is an expensive imitation of Sodom and Gomorrah. Dubai is basically everything wrong with humanity in one city. Night time in Dubai is unbearable because of humidity.

Dubai is being built keeping future in mind as their oil resources will soon vanish and they will have to depend on tourism for sustaining themselves.
