Paliya Dance

Paliyan dance is one of the gorgeous tribal dance of Kerala renowned its vibrant music.. The Paliyan tribes are found in the Idukki district of Kerala and in the neighbouring Madura and Ramanad Districts of Tamil Nadu. The word Paliyan originated from Valli, a Paliya, one of several wife of Subramanian, son of Siva. ‘Ezhamathu Palichi’ is their ancestral god . Mariamma is their common deity.They are performed dance forms during the festivals held at Mariyamma temple. Dance performers wear colourful dresses made of the bark of Acacia Instia and other naturally made costumes. Mulam Chenda (an instrument made of bamboo), Nagara,mathalam , Kidimutti, Jalanka are the main musical instruments used for Paliyan dance.
