Palantir CEO Karp on TITAN, AI Warfare Technology

Palantir CEO and co-founder Alex Karp discusses providing ground stations called “Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node,” or TITAN to the US government, how the US is handling the AI revolution, and demand for his company’s boot camps that showcase its products. Karp speaks with Ed Ludlow from the AIPCon event in Palo Alto, CA which brings together C-suite executives from across Palantir's current and prospective customers.

This is just one blurb from the Bloomberg article: “Moore, O’Callaghan and other officials are nonetheless the first to admit that their AI systems have a very long way to go and don’t trump human decision-making. Algorithms honed on desert conditions in the Middle East-for obvious reasons, the source of much of the American military’s real-life data-are far worse at identifying objects elsewhere. Overall, O’Callaghan says, the 18th’s human analysts get it right 84% of the time; for Maven, it’s about 60%. Sometimes the system confuses a truck with a tree or ravine. Tanks are generally the easiest to spot, but with objects such as anti-aircraft artillery, or when snow or other conditions make images harder to parse, the accuracy rate can fall below 30%. In Moore’s view, “the benefit that you get from algorithms is speed,” with recent exercises showing that AI isn’t yet ready to recommend the order of an attack or the best weapon to use.” Sounds like a typical “shitty” piece of DoD software to me. It’s not a competitive open market, so Palantir’s software can easily be “second rate” and yet still look “compelling” when you put it next to that ABSOLUTE TRASH their competitors are peddling.

@@henryjunior2642 I learned everything I need to know about Technology when I got my Degree in Electronics Engineering Tech. I spent the last 30 years involved in practical implementation of said skills. I told my Mother 25 years ago that the most valuable commodity on the planet is "information", she didn't know what I meant. You're all about to find out.

They’re building software to replace intelligence analysts. That’s enticing to governments because it’s more secure than screening people. The effectiveness can be hidden behind “that’s classified”, which makes it easier to sell to non-technical government managers. Whether this is scalable to commercial, non-military applications, is an open question. None of what I wrote has anything to do with the share price, though long term this company needs to be able to grow beyond government contracts. I’m not convinced his song and dance will gain more contracts, though it probably pumps share prices in the near term.

"If you want to compete, compete on your product." Palantir is crushing the competition, the rest of the clowns are going to be left behind. And this interviewer never shuts up to listen, did his handlers give him all the pathetic questions to ask, nah he probably got them from a powerpoint.

Image matters Alex. Walking around with a dirty t-shirt and skinny jeans is not going to sell anyone anything. You disparage your competition's PowerPoint presentations but I don't see you bringing a demo to the game. Maybe you would fair better with a PowerPoint presentation because at least you would have something. Alex looks like a disenfranchised Simpson's character screaming about Palantir and its "ontology" structure which no one understands.
