I think it's very well put-together and one of the most balanced initial releases I've seen in a long time. This could go into a book tomorrow with very few changes in my opinion.

I like the addition of another build with access to Banishment, arguably the most effective spell against extra-planar opponents. I'm still surprised the spell isn't on the Druid spell list, I would have assumed protecting the natural world from other-worldly threats would be right in their wheelhouse.

We have the Horizon Walker for the Ranger, and now this paladin. I hope they do this for the other classes as well. You can form a party of cosmic power rangers.

And here I thought there was finally going to be a subclass for the paladin who just wants to binge Netflix all night.

This might fit well in Eberron as an organization meant to fight the aberrations of Kyber. I think I'll put this in as a primarily dwarven group working in the Mror Holds.

Only if they dare to reach the same levels of insanity as the original 2nd edition version.

I see this pairing rather well with the “Haunted One” background… Someone who, when they were young, was terrorized by an extra planar creature, and so spent most of their early life training to combat them.

So 40k grey knights?

Playing this in a Dark Souls themed campaign as an Abyss Watcher, really excited to test it out.

Love subclasses like this that kinda come with a backstory baked in with it. Very noob friendly and easy to pick up with regards to not needing much experience in rpg:s and fantasy in general

Not sure the City of Doors needs another group of Hardheads runnin around, a bloods got enough problems just tryin to make coin. Just stick it to the Doomguard, and we'll call it square.

I've played this subclass in our campaign and I must say, that this is my most favourite paladin subclass in game overall. I hope this oath will make it into PHB at some point

cant wait to give my player paladin the option to play this in Descend Into Avernus! it fits so well!

I want to play in a game where this paladin is a part of an adventuring group made up of a swashbuckler, a war wizard, and a gloom stalker. They make up a highly trained quick strike team who all have boosted initiatives.

Currently playing a spelljamers homebrew as an oath of the watchers paladin. Much fun

I can see this working very well in the MTG settings. Orzhov Watcher paladins. Thematically it fits

@@RasmusVJS The orzhov have a ghost hunting faction within them. Run by Kaya who after War of the Spark is sent to remove Liliana from the multiverse. Ghosts and zombies to the orzhov are not meant to be in the plane

@@melhawk2243 I was thinking of pre-Kaya Orzhov. I forget, is the council still made up of ghosts, or did Kaya kill them all? Anyways, then I'd say that the clerics anti-undead identity is more appropriate, since the Watcher paladin features don't do anything against undead.

Yes. Yes it is. Besides they just said that watchers are there to remove anything not of the material plane. Ghosts, undead, elementals all of which can fall under that

I had a idea from the barbarian video. Basically a Hell warlord Mad Max barbarian, they can use improvised weapons, can craft equipment from scraps, summon lesser devils and eventually build/maintain a Hell vehicle

This is perfect! In my home brew I had created an order to defend and operate the planer travels in my world. Can’t wait to put some more paladin flavour on these people.

I'm trying this oath for the first time. Excited to see how this character works out.

As this may have been already said for a MTG idea,this has a major Gatewatch feel subclass with other classes combos to a point that gives flavor or plannar guardians

Hmmmm , very interesting Oath . Just so happens , we started Descent into Avernus and I am playing a "Initiate" Paladin . He is only level 2 :), but will soon be 3rd by the end of the next session . I do have to read up on this Oath . Just not sure how it would play out in that campaign setting .. And the fact that the DM uses the Meat Grinder rule for this campaign is a bit tough , hard to be invested in a character with the Meat Grinder rule , No Feats , basic point buy for stats and given the average hit points for your class . Heheh , but I am having fun , which is really what it is all about .

I immediately thought of TAZ Amnesty I'm very interested in this subclass

This oath just reminds me of the nightswatch from game of thrones.

I honestly could see this being a Paladin that would be Xenophobic because since they're "tasked" with keeping out Elementals, Fey, Fiends, & Aberrations. I could see said Xeno Paladin going even further & targets even the off-shoots like the Genasi (Elementals), Elves (Fey), Tieflings (Fiends). And since, at the moment, it doesn't specifically include Celestial or Demons, I could see these Paladins working for a Demon like Orcus & wanting to wipe out everything else or working for a Celestial that believes in order to bring Peace that those that have the propensity of causing Chaos or Wars are to be eliminated. To that end, I could see said Celestial ordering the eradication of all Elementals, Fey, Fiends, Aberrations & their off-shoots

Technicaqlly they would never ally themselves with demons or fiends of any kind. To quote the tenets: "Loyalty. Never accept gifts or favors from fiends or those who truck with them. Stay true to your order, your comrades, and your duty."

I mean they're tasked with defending against threats to planes. I'd think part of the job is being able to discern the good from the bad, as if you operate on many planes, you can't really afford to be Xenophobic, or at least that's how I play mine. He is very careful of deals he makes.

I have a Warlock Patreon i made called, THE DEVOURER, its based on the idea of consuming your enemies and gain power based on that, while also being able to eat basically almost anything

i would be happy if they gave 2 handed weapons 1 1/2 strength bonus, there is virtually no incentive to play high strength pcs even a dex barbarian is arguably more effective use of attribute points at least in the early game .

I'm liking that these Paladins are basically the Men in Black with hammers and swords.

Question for the team: Any idea why the latest Unearthed Arcana doesn't show up on the main page? It only seems to be accessible through a direct link. Newest UA on the main page is from November.

I LOVE this subclass

Was really hoping that the watcher paladin would have been maybe a ranged weapon and ranged smite but this subclass is still pretty cool

Well if you ever wanted to be Heimdall in D&D, this is how you do it. I hope with this and Horizon Walker we get a Planescape or Spelljammer book for 5e. Preferably both!

my top 3 are spelljammer, dark sun , planescape. Never had the chance to play in a spelljammer game. planescape and Dark Sun are my favorite settings. I would like to do a campaign where the 3 settings are linked. something like starting in sigil, piss off lady pain but instead of the cage/maze dungeon , the party is exiled to Athas,then at some point Athas is invaded by mindflayers or some other galactic slaver race ( psionic warfare with the sorcerer kings seem like a cool concept) , their appearance in Spelljammer/equivalent vessel would indicate escape from Athas possible if they can get one or arrange a ride. It might be one of the grandiose concepts that never make it to play but its fun to think about . what do you think?

I could see these guys easily becoming either corrupt, some sort of travel agency, or both

I imagine this class oath as John Constantine on Slaine mode for some reason with a spark of Highlander, is this just me and am I missing something?

I want to play a Warforged Oath of the Watchers who wants to be an Inevitable.

Please make more class feature variants and maybe hopefully someday stuff it into a beautiful book?

I feel the only problem with this subclass is that the only real way to get them to break their Oath is to have the Paladin get all chummy with a Fey. Part of the fun of being a Paladin is going through the morality play that is their Oath, making hard calls. Sure there is some potential in being extra-planar border control but that is dependent on there even being any extra-planar folk to deal with.

Ye this subclass seems good to me nor overpowered and honestly easy to fit into a setting

I like the idea of the other realms having the same thing on their side

This new paladin sounds really cool.

This to me looks very much like the oath of the guardian from Mike Mearls happy fun hour. I wonder where that went.

Is the Oath of Watchers good for DnD beginners? I played a paladin character in my school DnD but I didn't choose a subclass because I never knew they existed. So I wanted to know if it's good for beginners.

This paladin sound like it would have a true-netral alignment, and non-interferance being a tenent of their oath, and alot of Divination and Abjuration magic. ... Reminds me of the Wathcers from the Marvel Universe.
