Фильм және анимация

Ever wondered why in some regions you can only shoot 100fps when with one switch you can shoot 120fps? Have you wondered why everyone always says 24 fps, but your camera says 25? In this video we break down frame rate regions and decode the acronyms: PAL VS NTSC

to remove flicker just set your shutter speed to match some factor of the power hz. you can shoot ntsc in australia and just set your shutter speed to 100th sec for example.

Thanks for the good video. I am still confused about whether I should even care about NTSC vs. PAL. What I want to do is rip some DVD's to my hard drive to circumvent the region codes, and then write them to DVD's that will play in my U.S. Blu Ray player (Sony, circa 2015). One of the DVD's is in PAL format and is region 2, the others are NTSC and region 0. Is this even something I should be concerned with when ripping them? Once ripped and saved digitally, will the NTSC/PAL thing even matter? Do you have a video on ripping to the drive?

I’ve noticed UK shooters come to the US and shoot 100fps and I’ve never noticed any issues on their wedding videos. I prefer 100 over 120 for slow motion and I’ve wanted to make the change for quite a while now. Think I’ll try for this upcoming wedding.

So, I'm in Canada on a 60Hz power supply and I want to shoot 24fps with a 180° shutter angle, and my camera will do 1/50 shutter speed, but not 1/48, should I set it to 1/60 to synchronize it with 60Hz lighting?

It also informs what your shutter speed and frame rate should be according to region in order to avoid flickering lights, especially for slow motion.

Hi! So the short version is check what region you're in and set the shutter to a multiple of the Hz of that region. So in a PAL country, a multiple of 1/50 and in NTSC countries, a multiple of 1/60. This won't always work though, especially of you are shooting slow motion. But at real time speed. That should do just well. Hope that helps!

I'm still confused I have two camera's when I set Pal on the Canon it still has 1080 at 60fps but no 50fps available on the menu on my Go Pro it has 50fps when set to Pal so if I want to have the same frame rate on my timeline when editing I will have to shoot in NTSC or maybe my Canon camera is just too old

  • @LoopedPictures

That is really strange. PAL by definition can only have 25, 50, 100 and so on. Only NTSC can have 60fps. On some Canon cameras though, they just put all the available frame rates on one screen regardless of which setting your camera is in. Perhaps the camera is not capable of 60, and thus the highest it can be is 50. But 50 is definitely PAL. Your GoPro seems more accurate. But your editing software should be able to fix it either way.

Probably not.. if you want to watch TV broadcasts you would need to have 50Hz support and DVB/PAL tuners in TV.. US TVs probably doesn’t support 50Hz but only 60Hz and they have ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuners..

Hi mate. Thanks for the video! I m in PAL country region\. And I can see 100 and 150 fps are enabled in my R6II. When I shoot in 150 even though I follow 180 rule my video flickers while i playback, It does not flicker while recording. But no problem when I shoot in 100fps with or without 180 rule! Is this normal?

The NTSC frame rate of 29.97 was adopted due to a visible beat interference between the sound carrier and the color signal. Frame rate was lowered by 900Hz to solve this.

I am in PAL country, used NTSC 4k/30fps with 1/50 shutter speed, worked well, .. but if i wanna shoot in 1080/60fps the shutter speed should be 1/100 but results in flickering so need to bring it way down.. (can't remember if it was 80 or 50) why is that 🤔 ?

  • @LoopedPictures

Hi. So in PAL countries electricity works at 50Hz, so when you film in 60fps, it records frames between the electricity refresh rate. Meaning that the lights are off in some of the frames. But if you shoot at 50fps. The lights flickering will sync up with the frame rate. So it will only record frames when the lights are on. Does that make sense?

USA KZread record on 24/30 fps and we see/view it on screens 50/60 hz energy format. So there should be no problem?

  • @artofdao
    @artofdao6 ай бұрын

I think it should be set where you shoot not where you receive the video. Meaning if you shoot the video in a PAL country shoot pal 25/50/100 fps If you shoot in a ntsc country e.g USA take ntsc 30/60/120 for recording. The screen and player when playing it back will to the rest.

There is no reason to avoid NTSC- framerates in PAL- countries. Yesterday I shot several artificial light sources with 30 FPS at 1/60 sec. - and there was no flickering at all! If there had been one, I would have reduced the shutter speed to 1/50 sec., and this would have eliminated any kind of flickering for sure. The old rules are no longer valid. My recommendation is to choose 30 FPS as standard - and take 60 or 120 or even 180 FPS for slow motion. 80% of 30 FPS gives you a special smooth motion, if desired.

Consumerism at its finest. 60 and 50 are great, 30 and 25 are okay. Now everyone wants 120fps. And 300fps. And 9000fps. And yet, it is never enough. People still want more. Never satisfied. Do they even know what they want? I say no.
