Yes, that is correct. Such a significant worship place for Sikhs, it just doesn't make any sense to keep it in that region when Sikhs were to live in India. But, I can't blame British totally because they formed a Radcliffe Boundary Commission in which Master Tara Singh was also included in the 8-Member Commission to put forth the concerns of Sikh community. I don't get why he didn't press for Kartarpur to be in Indian Punjab.

Boundary Commission was headed by Cyril Radcliffe, a British, but its members were all Indians. 4 Muslims were included to negotiate for areas they wanted in East and West Pak. While 3 Hindus and 1 Sikh were included to negotiate for areas they wanted in India. Radcliffe's work was only to decide on the basis of arguments presented by all members. If Sikh member would have advocated better for Kartarpur, it was not difficult to get Kartarpur which is just 5 km from border. Definitely, there were mistakes from our side.

The Soils of Attock, Peshawar, Lahore, Kasur, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, Multan, Lyallpur, Umerkot, Hinglaj etc. are equally venerable. When Kashmir was ruled by Dogras and Awadh was ruled by Lucknow Nawabs - Ayodhya was still a pilgrimage for Kashmiris and Amarnath was still a pilgrimage for people of Ayodhya.
