Pakistan's First Moon Mission /Icube-Q
Pakistan is gearing up for an extraordinary event this Friday,May 3rd, as it prepares to witness the launch of its inaugural lunar mission. The Institute of Space Technology (IST) has announced that the lunar mission, named iCube-Q, is set to launch at 12:50 PM local time on board China’s Chang'e 6 lunar probe, as reported by Dawn. Developed in collaboration with China’s Shanghai University SJTU and Pakistan's national space agency, SUPARCO, the iCube-Q satellite marks a significant milestone for Pakistan's space exploration endeavors. Confirming the collaboration, the Chinese embassy in Pakistan stated that the Chang'e 6 lunar probe will carry payloads from the European Space Agency (ESA), France, and Pakistan. The iCube-Q orbiter will carry two optical cameras to capture images of the lunar surface, having successfully completed integration with the Chang'e 6 mission after rigorous testing. This mission, the sixth in China’s series of lunar exploration endeavors, aims to land on the Moon’s far side, collect samples, and return them to Earth for research purposes. The live telecast of the launch will be available on the IST website and its social media platforms. The significance of this mission for Pakistan cannot be understated, as it represents a collaborative effort with China in advancing space exploration. Moreover, the inclusion of iCube-Q, a CubeSat Satellite developed by IST, demonstrates Pakistan’s growing capabilities in space technology. These CubeSat satellites, characterized by their modular components and small size, play a vital role in scientific research and educational initiatives related to space exploration. As we look towards the skies, Pakistan and China stand united in their quest to explore the cosmos and expand humanity’s understanding of the universe.
