GT Road or the Grand Trunk Road starts from Kabul, Afghanistan and goes upto Teknaf, Bangladesh via Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Lahore, Amritsar, Delhi, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Dhaka and Chittagong.

I think this train was called the Frontier Mail. This train , they say, never ever got late. It passed through Amritsar and Lahore. This was a very prestigious and sensitive train route. It was primarily meant to take the dak and letters, etc, of the British soldiers and officets coming by ship from England to Bombay, to further up to Peshawer, as quickly as possible. That is why the word "Mail" . For a long time, the Frontier Mail phrase was used as a slang to denote any man or woman who walked very fast unnecessarily.

It is not a Hindi word. It is used in East lndia in Bihar, West Bengal, Bangladesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Assam and some N.E. states.

Bombay-Peshawar train was Frontier Mail via Lahore, Amritsar, Delhi, Kota, Ratlam, Baroda and Surat. After independence, it is now running from Amritsar to Mumbai Central and now known as Golden Temple Mail. The train was started on 1st September 1928.

Mumbai CSMT- Firozpur Punjab mail is running currently.....this was the Bombay Peshwar Mail before....not Golden temple mail...

@@jainethlodaya2450 Agreed. Both the trains were running between Bombay and Peshawar prior to independence but via different routes. My clarification is that Frontier Mail is still running but with new name viz Golden Temple Mail.

Bombay to Peshawar train used to go via Punjab . It was called Punjab mail. Its route was via Itarsi , Agra , Delhi , Amritsar , Lahore and finally Peshawar cantt.

Yeh GT Road pe humaray school (which is in Asansol) pe ek famous essay likha gaya tha (in 1982) by a very funny man (he was hardly 15 then) & was asked to write in History Exams *"The contribution of Sher Shah Suri to the development in India."* He thought the teacher measures the length of the answer instead of the content, so he started n ended with relevant material and in the centre wrote fictional stories. Sher Shah Suri was a very able administrator who introduced the postal system and irrigation system in India. He also built the GT Road, which runs from Kabul to Kolkata. The GT Road passes beside the Pumpu Talab in Asansol, sometimes In the winter Gemini Circus comes to Pumpu Talao it has many animals like elephants and tigers and dogs even some clowns. After school before going home we go to Pumpu Talao to play marbles. Marbles can be bought at the Atwal store, but better but from the small thela outside the school gates. We also play cricket in winter in our school which Sher Shah Suri didn't introduce thus didn't waste India's time in English sports. Thus the contribution of Sher Shah Suri to India's development is immense in the field of communication, transport and development. Another teacher had been appointed, and this friend of mine was asked to read his answer to the whole school at the assembly. 😂😅

No, Amritsar is a very small city. Lahore and Delhi were indeed called similar cities, as these both cities were the centre for our Freedom Revolution and they both shared kind of similar culture and people. These both cities used to be the biggest cities of North India.
