Painting with the Sideshow Method

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I am painting up the skin tone for my Dolph Lundgren Punisher using the Sideshow Method. I usually do 2 sets of washes to achieve the look I’m shooting for.

I do this but with more colors. Yellow wash should go 1st, blue 2nd, red last and make sure you use enough to kill most of the yellow. Then you must mix your skin tones in a wash and go over it lightly. Tamiya TS-80 flat clear is the best sealant for me. It dries in about 10mim and I can continue adding shading and highlights.

How many drops do you use of each wash mixed with water?

@@TheSpectreIguana Very light washes. 25% paint 75% water. Also use pointy brush to absorb paint that accumulates in the small crevices like the ear lobe, eye and nose. Just don't allow the wash to fully dry out until you have a even coat

before you master with yellow red and blue, you have to paint it with skin flesh color first, those 3 colors to do a more vivid shading effect.

That’s because the “washes” are water based, and then he going in after with more water on his sponge which is washing out everything he just painted. A water based paint or wash will be re activated again when you introduce water to it. You have to seal it otherwise you’re essentially just painting it on and then washing it all back off again. 🤦🏻‍♂️

What do I need to do, If I want to make custom figures on marvel legends? Do I need a technique before and after painting tips? Cuz I just have tried to paint on figure with model color paints and after drying the paint comes easily off. Did I did maybe something wrong? Or the paints are not good enough for plastic? I want to know!

It all depends on the prep work you do for your figures beforehand. Are you washing them with warm water and soap to remove the mold release agent left on the plastic? Are you lightly sanding them down to better help paint adherence? Are you priming them? Are you using $1 bottles of craft paint or are you using model acrylic paint? All of these factor into having good paint adhesion.

What do you use to get the look when finished. Like what Sheen are the base color, the washes and I caught that your sealer is matte not flat. I've been really curious I go back and forth between your videos and fett.clone to try and get an idea of how I want the tones to come out. Thank you for your time in making these videos
