    You can use aqua gloss from alclad to clear coat the molito. It knocks back the shine a slight bit, but you can handle it the same day.

  • @Groundeffected

    I have tried that. But if you don’t let it dry long enough it will make the shine dull I’ve found the resistance is good enough on the molotow once cured though.

    Great job as always Brent. FYI Tamiya paints come in both acrylic & lacquer, the X series is lacquer and the XF series is acrylic. I just watched a video from a modeler who compared Molotov to AK Super Chrome and GSW Chrome and GSW was the clear winner. It gave the same finish but with less drying time and it can be handled after its dried. Going to give it a try myself!

    I'll most certainly give it a try. I did a Quicksilver from Silverhawks last year, but the clear coat darkened the chrome, and kind of dulled it a little. I didn't use molotov cause I could not find it near and affordable. I said on the clock app chrome was the bane of my existence...😆

    I'm using this technique(which is super dope btw) on some metal for Magneto (6 inch scale dio), Did you use any extender/reducer? I'm not sure if it's b/c I am using the marker vs refill or if they changed any ingredients but it seems to start chunking up in my airbrush with chrome bits pretty quickly, I'm having to clean it quite often, which is a total nightmare btw. Perhaps the time it takes me to transfer out of the marker, into a dropper, and into my brush allows it to dry? Idk, any advice would be helpful though, thanks!

  • @Groundeffected

    Um. Yea if you have one that’s a bit more glossy. Some inks have a matt medium in them and that wouldn’t make the effect you’re looking for. Wish I had purple for this but I had blue felt like it was a good choice at the time. I accept my choices even though I wished I chose different. Lol

And the silver surfers I’ve painted are solid chrome with no chance of rubbing off and I didn’t even clear coat it. I never thinned it at all.

    Tamyia are realy acrylaques. They're and acrylic/lacquer blend which is why you can thin with lacquer thinner and acrylic thinners. I use Mr. Color thinner to thin Tamyia paints and then they act like a lacquer paint. They do take a little longer to dry but they atomize and spray a he'll of alot better thinned with lacquer thinner. Painting chrome sucks and I stay away from it at all costs. Lol

  • @Groundeffected

    @Groundeffected

    2 жыл бұрын

    That’s good info. I knew it wasn’t a proper acrylic because of how it behaves. I figured it was more of a lacquer hence the use of lacquer thinners but that probably was luck back when I tried it at first hahaha. Man if I’m gonna do chrome again it’s gotto be like a 2 month project. Paint the chrome and forget about it for 2 months. But also needs a vacuum to be kept it because dust omg dust would be a nightmare. Hahaha thanks for watching again my dude. Love your input too!!
