Interesting and instructive demo with trunks on wet paper and yellow paint with more dark thin trunks with reflections. The banks come in wonderful place for a beautiful contrast with yellow bushes. More thin dark trunks on top of the first ones which add beauty. A few yellow and dark brown leaves on top of trunks. Another interesting demo with the ripples. Big trunks on right hand side on empty space which make the scene more realistic and beautiful. The yellow and dark leaves on trunks complete the scene with a beautiful view. This is a beautiful painting and I enjoy a lot watching you and learning how to handle the brush for different shapes. Thank you very much for sharing.

You illustrated really well, Steve, how the wetness of the paper can create such different layers of perspective and depth. The background seems thick with trees but they're all applied on a paper which is in the process of drying. I must try this- and try to work as fast as I can. Looks easy but I know it won't be. 😏Thanks for that , and the result is very good, a great 'mood' created here.

I always use a large Ron Ranson hake brush. Keep practicing and you'll get there. Best wishes and happy painting

Steven I thoroughly enjoyed your painting demo! I am subscribed to your Channel at first I did not like your style of painting. But now I love it! One of the things that I like about your paintings is that you're very fluid and loose. And that's the problem that I have I feel as though I'm too tight and I fiddle too much with little things that don't matter. Many times I end up with a painting that I don't like because it's too tight and fidgety! I do have a question for you, so you paint professionally but you use Cotman paint? Everyone's always saying use professional-grade paints! One last question do you ever sketch out your painting with pencil before you paint?

Thanks for your comments . First off I must point out that I'm not a full professional. I still have a job to pay the bills and do this in the afternoons. I'd like to do it full-time one day . Learning to paint loose will come with practice. I too like most of us used to fiddle and fuss over little details. It was watching Ron Ranson that helped me paint loose. I used to do a preliminary sketch but don't anymore. I just go straight in with the paint. Keep practicing and very best of luck with your watercolours

Hi Steven love your loose style of paint, roughly how much did you hake brush cost and I'm thinking of switching from Windsor and Newton watercolors to a different Brand, what would you recommend?

I buy my hake brush on eBay. I think it cost about 8 to £9. I've only used cotman watercolours for years now so couldn't really recommend anything else to be honest. I must really try to experiment a little more. Thanks for watching and best wishes

Had a go with this one. Never painted so fast hahah. Trouble is, I felt I was rushing so the colours aren't quite as interesting as yours. Anyway, my exercise for today
