I’m not on instagram so don’t follow these particular journalists but see others on Twitter who are doing such important work telling the world what is happening in Gaza and risking their lives to do so. I absolutely love these portraits. You’ve captured Bisan’s beautiful smile so perfectly. You have this incredible gift of capturing the best of people. If I may be so personal, I experienced it myself when you did your collage of me with my cats. At that point in my life, I didn’t even register my own reflection in the mirror. Somehow, you reconstructed me. You gave me back my reflection in that moment, through your art. I’d like to think that Bisan will see this painting and will feel the same joy upon seeing how we see her, even after having so much taken from her, having her identity co-opted by the necessity of having to live to tell the tale. This is art as resistance in such a uniquely gentle way.

Taylor Swift??! Yes, she donates a large portion of her earnings to charities and she's a good person, but damn, what a way for Time to deviate the attention away from the Middle East. Your paintings captured their spirit and strength beautifully. I can see the hope in their eyes and smiles. The courageous and phenomenal work their doing in order to share the truth of the horrors currently taking place deserves to be recognised.
