I discovered your channel by accident! I'm planning to either revarnish or paint 27-year-old cabinets with a lot of grease and grime. I'm so glad to have found you! You make a difficult job for this novice look easier than I thought it would be. I need to renovate the whole house that I just got. I’m not sure if this would get in the way of painting afterwards, but this method has helped me give a second life to so many nasty old items around the house. Especially the greasy grimey stuff! I just spray it down with vinegar or cleaning vinegar so that it’s soaked, then sprinkle over it with baking soda, making sure to spread the baking soda all over, let it sit for a few hours and wipe away the years of grossness. I used to decorate cakes for a living, and when the bakery closed down, my boss gave me a ton of really cool (but really old and nasty) equipment that had no business being near food until I used this trick. I couldn’t believe the difference. I’m sure the degreasers from the hardware store work great but if you want to avoid the chemicals and save a few bucks it’s worth a shot. Plus the baking soda & vinegar are natural deodorizers :) Good luck!

518 Painters anytime! I don’t have the before pictures from a lazy Susan cake stand I cleaned, but you can tell that it’s easily from the 70’s or 80’s. It went from “old” to “vintage” lol it used to not even spin! But I actually have a question regarding regular bedroom painting. I tried to use my trusty vinegar and baking soda to get nicotine stains off the wall (super old house) and it was a bust. Even when I spray bleach it ends up streaky and runs. I really need to paint this mess but it’s like you said: 90% prep and I haven’t figured out how to get the stains off!

You will have to seal those nicotine stains with an oik based primer. I suggest "Zinsser Coverstain" that'll stop the stains from bleeding through and lock in any odor. @@alicia_737

Very good mentioning the oils in your skin, people always touch it. Also the sanding in between too. It’s so hard to find professionals that know what they are doing, that’s why I’m trying to do it myself. I’ve spent money in the past that would have been better spent on classes to be honest. Thank you!

Debating if I should paint a huge number of solid, custom built oak cabinets, or go 70s retro??? They are in exquisite condition and very beautiful .... but look dated. Decisions decisions!!!

looks great. I got old, but real wood cabinets that seems painted with cheap sloppy work, they even painted over hinges so I got a lot of sanding work, but will be worth it.

thanks I'm in the beginning of my DIY cabinets and you really helped me a lot i already cleaned it with degreaser and I put to take out some shallac n know I am and I'm smothing it with a grit 150 after i took off the shellac. N tomorrow i will sand them a bit more. Then i will clean them again. Let them dry overnight before i paint them but I will be using chalk paint n then wait 2weeks n wax them hope I'm right wish me luck 🤞

My father was a house painter. I had tons of exposure on tools, method and product. Thank you for adding to my knowledge base for kitchen cabinets. I have oak cabinets and I want to update with A nice off-white on the uppers and a darker color on the lowers. I’ve been watching KZread videos on how to prepare the oak cabinet and I was becoming discouraged because of the level of difficulty in the preparation phase with the wood filler etc. None of the videos I saw until today talked about self-leveling paint for cabinets. I’m gonna do what another comment mentioned, do the bathroom cabinets to get a feel for it and then tackle the kitchen. My dad‘s not here anymore to help me so I’m doing this in his honor. Thank you for the video I really appreciated it. With your accent you make me miss my New York people. God bless.

You’re using good products. I’ve been painting for 20yrs and they are the exact products I use if it’s not lacquer. I’d suggest spraying them with an hvlp sprayer though, the results are incomparable to rolling.

Never use aerosol spray cans! Brush and roll or invest in a budget friendly hand-held sprayer

Your video was so helpful. I was going to chalk paint to avoid sanding, but this method and paint i think would be much more durable. Just wondering if i could finish with a spray that won’t yellow and will make the cabinets even stronger.....any advice?

Mena Coppola I use and love this paint and don’t think a topcoat is necessary at all. It’s very hard wearing.

This is a good tutorial for cabinets. What do you recommend for filling in the grooves in wall paneling? I've been told joint compound. Your thoughts?

Love. What about staining? Is staining the same process for prepping?

Just painted the backside of 20 cabinets. Put them outside on a tarp propped up on two by to dry and then unfortunately it got windy. Got little stuff stuck in it everywhere. Will have to sand off the crap later if I care. I hate when that happens. Good video thanks dude.
