As much as I like the Digital Art, there was just something about the sketchbook episodes that I liked a lot more, specifically for this series. I think it was just because you had a page of concept art then the actual fully design.

"While I know I'm not the best at it, I'd like to try to get better at it." This is what keeps me coming back to Jazza over any other artist that have perfected their niches. I've been watching Jazza for almost 15 years now. He has helped me grow as an artist. He has made me unafraid to try new things and make mistakes and still be proud to show them off. I know he deals with imposter syndrome, so I hope he knows that his value isn't just the skill visible on his artwork, but his personality and attitude as a whole. Jazza is always refining his skill and trying interesting things and I think that's a far more valuable legacy than artists who are scary good at one specific thing. If you happen to read this, Jazza, I've been watching your content since I was 12. I am now 27. You've shaped my adulthood, my career (I'm a graphic designer and I use many of the skills you taught me), my art and even my attitude toward it. Thank you!

So the interesting thing about Beholders (At least in D&D 3.5) is that they canonically come in all kinds of different designs. The variety in appearance can be quite massive and each beholder considers itself to be the one true specimen of beholderkind. So your design would be completely canon!

Same thing is true in 5e. In Volo's Guide to Monsters, there are whole tables dedicated to randomly generating different elements of a beholder. From what their eyestalks look like to how massive their central eye is compared to their body to the texture of the skin.
I LOVE that your team includes monsters from folklore as well (i.e. alien sightings and old folktales from countries). because it always keeps me guessing. also i swore the first one was gonna be gilderoy lockhart
I very much appreciate how even when you know damn well who you're drawing in these challenges you make an effort to give a unique interpretation of the description
Hear me out, I would just absolutely love if you did some Brandon Sanderson sketches based on book descriptions. He has some amazingly unique monsters in his novels. Here's a couple, The Steel Inquisitors from Mistborn series: -the ultimate fighting machine -black-robed -tall man with a strong build -a thick metal spike had been pounded tip-first through each of the man’s eyes. With shafts as wide as an eye socket, the nail-like spikes were long enough that their sharp points jutted out about an inch from the back of the man’s clean-shaven skull. The flat spike ends shone like two silvery disks, sticking out of the sockets in the front, where the eyes should have been. -intricate eye tattoos-mostly black, with one stark red line-that marked him as a high-ranking member of the Canton of Inquisition The Chasmfiends from the Stormlight Archive -crustaceans monsters, carapace is dark violet and extremely durable -largest known land animals on the planet Roshar -at least twenty feet wide, six times the height of an adult man at their peak -long and narrow, with a flattened, split tail reminescent of that of a crayfish -eighteen legs -head is triangular, narrowing down to a point like an arrowhead -circular mouth, surrounded by several rings of teeth -eyes set above the jaw, glassy and gree -nostrils are located at the very end of the maw, while the ears are bare holes slightly behind the eyes

Quentin Blake was the illustrator of Willy Wonka. He did the art for a lot of Roald Dahl's books. He's 90 now and is an absolute legend.
this series is so good. I’ve always wondered how accurate these famous characters are compared to the book
I actually thought the hopkinsville goblin was possibly an asteromorph from All Tomorrows but several of the prompts were just slightly off. Would love to see Jazza try a creature from c.m. Kosemen’s work in one of these!
Jazza’s reaction to Morgan’s art is also all of our reaction to Morgan
The Beholder is too iconic. I can't think of any other creature that's spherical with one eye, and has tentacles with eyeballs at the end. I already guessed it just by reading the description.
Part Four, so here's my third attempt to participate in the series: - An old white woman, gaunt and ferocious-looking - Huge nose - Sharp teeth made of iron - Bony legs - Collects skulls - Setting: Medieval or pre-Medieval times . . . . Baba Yaga

Jazza's sketch for the third one REALLY reminds me of the Shadow Heartless from Kingdom Hearts. The dark color, yellow eyes, and the exaggerated proportions despite the small stature all come together and screams Heartless to me. I know the name of the series is for books, but I'd REALLY love to see this done for video game, cartoon, and anime characters as well.
Quentin Blake would have done that drawing of Willy Wonka - he famously did the illustrations for Roald Dahl’s books - I could be wrong on that particular sketch, but I don’t think do.
It's real interesting that Ariel and Jazza did the same alien. Most of the time even with the same description people go different directions but not this time
You can tell how good Jazza’s brushes are by just looking at character 3, its digital but it literally looks like a marker drawing on paper! Saving up for those brushes for sure!
A video that I would love to see would be creating a character based only on an abstract silhouette. That's what I do when I make pixel art creatures.
It's hilarious that the description for those hobgoblins was SO detailed -- especially compared to everything else -- and then those sketches they provided were so absurdly vague.
You should do a video where you have many artist describe the drawing and it goes through like a line of them and see what the original was compared to the final result, how people interpret different explanations
I want to see Jazza draw Maris from the TV show Frasier based on all the descriptions they give of her throughout the 11 years of the show (since we never see her)! 😂
I remember I found you when I was in high school through your art competitions. I loved watching them and seeing what artist could do with your monthly prompt. Would be awesome to bring that back on INSERT ART
I'd love to see this series done with locations! Sometimes books have a place mentioned that sounds really cool but the movies don't do it justice, and it could be a fun little switch up from characters :)
Awesome characters, for a minute I thought the Nazgul was going to be a Lethrblaka from The Inheritance Cycle. Speaking of art competitions, just curious as to when is the DrawWithJazza monster video coming out? There have been no details given about the timeline either on the community page here or on your Twitter feed.
you need to do the blair witch!! its the only horror character you never see, but it has really good descriptions of it in the movies
I really enjoy these videos! I always get a little upset when I see a movie of a book I’ve read and the characters look absolutely nothing I expected.
The illustration is not by Roald Dahl! They are by Quentin Blake and they are amazing.
Jazza, you are truly inspiring! I remember watching your ‘artist redraws kids artworks’ years and years ago and as an aspiring Aussie artist I love every one of your videos!
I'm always here for these challenges! I already watched the Insert Art video and I was flipping over how very similar yours and Ariel's aliens were!

This series has been so fun to follow along with, thanks Jazza, keep up the good work! 🎉
Really cool to see Jazz a continuing to develop his style- it's really inspiring.
this would be really interesting with descriptions of monsters from mangas/animes
There are some very cool creatures from the book: The Wheel Of Time
This makes me think it would be a lot of fun for Jazza to do an episode or two specifically of descriptions of cryptids taken from reported sightings. There are some really fun and obscure ones out there.

Mate, Roald Dahl's illustrator is the MIGHTY Quentin Blake. Check his stuff out. It's glorious.
13:13 Jazza mentioned that this reminds him of Mike Wazowski. I then realized it looks like Mike and Celia’s potential kid, with the eyes.
That last illustration was so polished and amazing!
I love this series!
Ha, I originally thought the last one was a beholder. Then when he started talking about Monster's Inc, I thought it was going to be Mike's girlfriend. It would be hilarious if his team throws in a couple of curveballs of describing child friendly characters in horrifying ways.
I would love Jazza to do some interpretations of characters with darker colored skin!! Most of the characters he draws are assumed to be white, but I'd love to see some different types of characters! There's a lot of great franchises he can dip his toe into.

Very much concur with this!! It was one of the things I've noticed as this series progresses, its fun but a bit Eurocentric...? Would provide an interesting artistic challenge too as requiring very different colour mixes for more melanin-rich skin tones, different construction of the facial features, and very different techniques for showing how bouncing light interacts with darker skin?
Thank you, these videos are awesome and so much fun to watch
Jazza, just thought you should know the illustration of Willy Wonka is actually not done by Roald Dahl, but by Quentin Blake, the legendary British children's book illustrator who illustrated all of Roald Dahl's books and brought his characters to life. He's 90 years old and still illustrating children's books to this day!

The art style of Willy Wonka that you created, @Jazza, is both interesting and brilliant. Some may believe it to be a mixture between Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka, and although this may be true, it gives me a feeling reminiscent of the musical adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The few descriptions you provided in your drawing were enough to elicit this response from me, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoy it.

*I would take a bullet for Jazza's Hopkinsville Goblin.* I love that little gremlin so much oh my gosh- I think the producers may have unintentionally limited Jazza by putting someone of these in the "character" category instead of the "monster" category - he couldn't seem to get past more anthropomorphized ideas, because he was imaginining them as actual characters that might walk and talk and speak in a book or game.
I love when he does these character description videos!
