I actually stayed at this hostel and i recognized your art instantly when i went into the kitchen. I was literally painfully exhausted traveling alone, and had been to two other hostels that were closed for the night, and this one was open and it was worth it to see the mural.

I started watching your videos about a month ago. You are very inspiring. i like all of your murals, but this is my favorite so far. I like the symbolism all through this piece, partially because I love traveling and have stayed in many hostels from the USA, to Japan. The other part of this mural that I really like is that the subject matter is relatable to me, and all of the effort you put into it to do the research to decide what creatures/animals to use. This mural would make an AWESOME hoodie. If you could put this on a hoodie or t-shirt, I'd be all over it! :)

You're right that formal art training sets you back in a lot of ways. You learn the rules and how things should be done, which is great, but you also learn everything that you're doing wrong (even if it's your style)and that's terrifying. When I paint I know all of the anatomical or technique mistakes I'm doing wrong or rules I'm breaking and I can't help myself from thinking that other classically trained artists are going to see all of these mistakes, which is ridiculous but it's true. I think not knowing what other people are going to judge you about (especially because trained artists are a minority) gives you freedom to try out new things and put yourself out there. Also, art schools are very critical and knock your confidence a lot. Before art school you're probably the best artist that you know and everyone keeps complimenting your stuff, so it's a big shock when you then go to school where everyone draws as good as you (if not better) and the teachers just tear into your work. Besides, art is one of those jobs that you can practice without any formal training, so if that's what you wan to do, spare yourself the dept and the time wasted and try and practice and build a brand by yourself, from home. It really is the best way. Practice, read, go to museums, meet other artists, explore the world etc., that's a much better investment of your time and money if you want to be an artist.

I love the fact that one of my favorite artists right now drives a Prius. I never expected you to drive a Prius, however i can understand because they are pretty nice inside and they are surprisingly spacious.

I spent 5 years in an art college only to feel defeated and loose my motivation to make any art because of the fear of it being wrong. I e recently started to push my boundaries to make some cool art again just because and it feels so liberating ❤️ it’s like I’d to find the path I started on again.
