Brian so i did my first paint job today i got a 60gal 3 hp air compressor the eastwood cc500 paint gun you used and i have to tell you for the last 2 months i have watched your videos on how to paint a car . I followed the tech sheet on how much air to use at the gun for the paint it said use 10psi and i did the paint layed thick thank god i did not get any runs that was on the rear fenders and roof and inside door jams on my wifes 78 Camaro . I did what you said you like and bumped it up to 23psi WOWOWOWOWOW what an amazing differance that paint layed layed so nice on the rest of the car . So thank you for everything you have inspired a middle age man to do more paint jobs and feel good about laying one down .I cant thank you enough Brian thank you thank you thank you .

I love this channel. I am a windshield tech, our customers are mostly body shops. I encounter a lot of paint techs, since R&I jobs deal directly with them. Your skill and knowledge level is so stratospheric, that watching your channel actually provides me with enough info that not only can I keep up conversationally, I have educated a few of them on certain things. I am a novice painter, I just finished my 4th motorcycle paint job! I am getting a turbine sprayer next month

Great Video! I've done all kinds of mechanic work, but I've never painted a car and am contemplating giving it a try. This channel makes it feel accessible/obtainable to learn for the DIY person at home, like myself, and really helping me decide how I want to go about it my first time out of the gate. In my research, Ive come across these turbines and forums saying they're easy to work with, with great end results, and it's good to see a video about them here. Really interested to see the at home video! Keep up the great work Brian!

great video! I recently bought a Fuji 3stage and also operate it at about 5spi-with 105cfm. i find these are really viscosity sensitive-sweet spot seems to be about a Ford #4 12-14 second viscosity. The turbine heats up the air quite a bit-so i find i always use “slow” hardener. The 1mm works fine...but will flash dry on a hot day (dont have luxury of an indoor climate controlled booth). so use a 1.3-with fairly low material feed using single stage Urethane. High build primer/surfacer doesnt work well..but sealer works great. I love the gun. super easy to use. always dry clean air-and zero overspray. the best part is no erratic air flow from “too small ” compressors that us DYI’ers are sometimes forced to work with..great video...first good review of using these on a car!

@@BearBudgetTurbine this unit is a variable speed turbine. The technology is patented which is why no other manufacturer has anything similar. This is important for a number of reasons but primarily to keep the heat of the motor at a desirable temperature. Its kind of like having a really fast car... your not always going to mash the gas but it's nice to have the power when you need it! Manufacturers offer smaller stages in an effort to decrease overspray and heat but sacrifice air pressure which typically leads painters to overthinning materials or worse not being able to spray certain high viscosity materials like waterbased. I've used similar systems to the Apollo..... The Apollo is by far the best system out there.... I'm so glad you did this review the low over spray is just awesome! And the fact that it's such a compact system and no need for a compressor makes it simple for a DIY.... I think the price is good when you factor in all the extras you need to spray with a regular gun..... Air dryer, regulator, filters and compressor maintenance.

@@JR-iy7pb most definitely I have used a turbine to spray an entire car...... I have used a single stage Earlex system bottom feed/pressure with good results.... But the Apollo system is a multi stage turbine and it does a much better job and it also is a non bleeder gun which is a plus over the bleeder style guns.....and of course the Apollo is a gravity feed like the guns I use all the time. I would not hesitate to use the Apollo system. TP tools has a 3 stage system for $749 on sale and check out Amazon there are cheaper alternatives....but for automotive work stick to a multi stage turbine and choose either bottom feed or gravity feed to suit your needs.

The air is very soft and really makes the flake lie down nicely. Its much slower and as such your arm gets tired holding a quart gun. No water contamination like with a compressor. Most auto paints need to be thinned and definitely a slow reducer. The air from the turbine gets hot and dry spray is common. Very low overspray. The hose is large and bulky. Great for small jobs. I also spray waterborne and solvent paints indoors for homes and offices. Much better control than a hvlp or airless. The motors of the turbine are the same as vacuum cleaner motors(shop vac style). Anything more than 4 motor system is worthless. You can get a better deal on other brands or turbines. At one time they used that same style of gun with a thin air line hooked to a compressor. Air that is diverted from the spray, used for pushing the fluid down to the needle, takes away atomizing the paint. This style also is great for spraying bigger flake. Very nice set up for spraying motorcycle gas tanks. Its just another tool in your tool box.

I.have a relatively inexpensive turbine sprayer from Fuji ($400ish depending on where you buy it from) And if im honest it puts down paint every bit as well as any hobby / DIY level gun ive ever used. And while it wont lay down a million dollar show car finish, you can get a finish every bit as good as what most manufacturers gove you. That said a $1000 sata in the hands of someone who sucks at painting wont make them a pro, so a quality unit and decent skill can negate having to match compressor specs to gun needs and regulators etc etc... When i first started trying to learn paint and body works the thing that messed me up the most was not understanding the cfm needs of the HVLP guns (the non hvlp cup gun my neighbor gave me didnt care so long as i gave it 30psi overspray was ridiculous lol) vs what my compressor could provide. And running out to go get a "bigger compressor" really isnt feasible. These turbine units eliminate that learning curve, so if youre an enthusiast these are the way to go.

I wanted it bad when I first saw this video. I saved up as much as I could by way of side jobs. I clicked the link & it’s no good. Anyway, I think it is a Brilliant system. It’s been rebranded and is at Eastwood called the “Maximizer 2000 paint system” comes with the guns and is the same exact thing with different decals. Definitely worth the investment.

Can you make a video explaining sealers, primers, paints, and clear coats? Like what is it, when to use it, why you use it, what happens when you don't use it, around how many coats, what thinner to use. And maybe a paint thinner video? What thinners you use and the different types, I know there's a lot. I wouldn't want use the wrong paint or to add the wrong thinner and mess up a paint job.

Great video! Is the air from the turbine system a warmer air, more suitable for painting? I would have thought the turbine would have been outside of the paint booth. Very nice results.

These are pretty nice and a good option in several ways. But the price is a little out of range on this one for many. But you can buy them in same quality for half the price. From a certain company thats been selling them for years. Same gun types too. Great to see the detailed video. To point some in a good direction. I've been thinking about these for a while.

I’ve been researching these systems quite a bit, and I’ve seen a few recommendations of putting the hose in a bucket of ice water. Apparently it’s supposed to keep the air more constant as the temps in the beginning and in the end are different resulting in an imperfect finish.

Finally! Someone does a video spraying with a turbine! I’ve been spraying FUJI turbines for many years .... Turbines are very under rated and not very main stream, but produce great results with virtually no overspray. Slower than a conventional setup but tons of control. Great video ....!!

Cool video Brian.. i would love for you to do a comparison with the fuji platinum q5 & t75g or gxpc.. that's what i use.. all the reviews are for cabinetry type finishes as well as latex household type stuff. The rep i bought my unit from said that I needed at least a q4 to atomize automobile finishes like urethane base. I would love to know your thoughts & opinions on the FUJI.. i love mine..and actually found out about using a smaller fluid tip to atomize better after spraying 2k superbuild (2.0 tip)... (thought i was going to be blocking all day) but once it leveled out.. it was dead straight. No spot putty nothing.. sealer and base/clear.. another job start to finish... "on the go"
