That is SO true about the difficulty of mixing same color twice! We once heard an art instructor asked by a student, "What do you mean by subtle differences in color?" The instructor replied, "You know when you didn't mix up enough paint for your background, tried to match it, and couldn't? That is what I mean by a subtle difference."

🤣 yes perfect description of “subtle difference”

I agree is so hard to control how much color you need end how it mix
Thank you for addressing the block and flow. I care that you keep painting! When I’m blocked I start intuitive painting with no rules until i’m unblocked. The brain always has something to say even if its chatter. Beautiful painting!

This means a lot! Thank you! 🥹❤️ and yes to intuitive painting, I’d love to do that more
This reminds me of Wayne Thiebaud's cake paintings with the bright colours, deep shadows, and the flat background ❤

you just introduced me to new art 😁 thank you!
Your discussion of art block resonates with me. I went through a serious art block that lasted years, and I just finally feel like I'm getting back into it. It was a lot to do with my own mental health being poor and not valuing myself and my time enough to do things that matter to me. I struggled to feel like my art was worth making, but now I'm trying to focus on the good feelings thay come up when I make something I'm proud of.

I'm so glad you have been able to get back into it ❤ I really really get you about struggling to feel like your art is worth making, I also find that focusing on the positive feeling that I get while making it really helps me be way more present and enjoy the moment for what it is and not get to lost in the negative thoughts that may arise.
LOVED this video! 💛I totally agree with what you said about art block. I'm in the same boat of not being able to take long breaks between art creation, because I want it to be my career as well. I think having good references on hand is SO helpful for those days when you don't feel like creating. I also like to surround my art-making space with things that inspire me (art prints from some of my favourite artists and a few pieces of my own that I really like.) Also having my favourite supplies out where I can see them, rather than tucked away in a drawer really helps me!

Yes! love and agree with everything you say, the space thing is so important, like making my art corner look inviting always helps especially when the supplies are on view! It's so nice to have someone else be going through the art career journey too, grateful for what you share 🥰
Thank you for uploading your art and process it's helping me a lot to take the plunge back into gouache I'm also trying to paint for a living but I paint digitally. Gouache was something I did back in college but I haven't touched it in about a decade and I've been paralyzed to pick it back up. The way you explain and show your process eased a lot of my doubts so I'll give it a whirl this weekend again

Working on more! Thank you for watching ❤️🫶🏻
Lovely video. A lot resonates. I have now say to myself just do 30minutes, that could mean pencil sketches only or even drawing from photos for muscle memory. At worst I’ll tidy my art stuff so I’m at least in the creative environment even if I’m not creating anything. I also know that my energy levels aren’t great so some days I do more than others and I’m ok with that.

Yes sometimes just tidying art stuff helps you move some of that “stuck” feeling because you are doing something at least- i am the same! ❤️

The waxy texture of those lemons … so impressive like the depth of your subject on paper is …wow. I love your videos so much. Also always fascinated by the process (starting with background and shadows)…makes sense but never thought about it explicitly and you explain the process so well it materialises so amazingly before my eyes…thanks for another amazing video/process explanation/sumptuous art…as always, looks edible and delicious ❤

What helped me with art block is getting a "trash sketchbook". its only function is to doodle without any consequences, its just for the sake of doodling and trying out new or old supplies. Noone has to see it, Im allowing myself to create "bad" art and it's very freeing.

Thank you thank you Sofia you have given me so much inspiration with those vibrant colors! I always thought gouache was for kids but thanks to you I see you can really make some awesome pieces with it and your layering technique really gives that depth, I am a fan now! I made a grapefruit today , wish I could show you and have your honest critique , if you allow I could send on Insta? Anyway grateful for you ❤
