"how does anyone go on with their life after this" !!! YES, exactly how I feel. This reaction helped me recognize again how UNREAL and remarkable this album is.

considering how many julien-led songs you shouted out at the end ($20, cool about it, anti-curse, satanist) i definitely recommend julien's solo work. she has three albums (sprained ankle, turn out the lights, and little oblivions) and they're all gorgeous and brutal and incredible in their own ways. sprained ankle is very stripped back, little oblivions is more of a full band sound, and TOTL is somewhere in the middle. there's an amazing live show that boygenius did in 2018 in brooklyn steel where they each performed some of their solo work and then came back at the end and played their boygenius EP together. it's a great introduction into their catalogues and individual vibes, plus the totally different dynamic when they all play together. LTAOP also references a song from that EP, Me & My Dog, and actually interpolates the crowd from that brooklyn steel show during that song (the build during "waiting") because it was such a memorable moment for them. here's the link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qpiDycytfazVXbw.html

In order, I listened to Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, boygenius, and Julien Baker just last week and holy crap the amount that I have related to Turn Out the Lights is insane. I listened to all three albums back to back to back and it was such an insane ride.

The whole album is about their friendship and the power of non-romantic love :) Lucy's storytelling is so beautiful. On the vinyl, the album ends with a locked groove, so the word waiting goes on until you stop it.

The Revolution 0 lyrics are somewhat logical and a little short but musically is really pristine and those processed harmonies in the end... Just wonderful

I'm so glad I came across this, you really analyse these songs in a very in-depth way, both on their own and as part of the whole record, and I love to hear it! ❤

Beautiful reaction, you get it! The more I listen to this album the more I uncover with the production. It's so layered and beautiful and you can really tell how much care and love went into making this album. Fun fact, "Leonard Cohen" was inspired by an actual road trip they all took where Phoebe was so insistent about making them listen to a song she loved that she missed the exit on the highway, and in the song you can hear Phoebe come in as backing vocals for Lucy when she sings the dialogue portions. It's so good! And their self-titled EP is amazing in case you haven't heard that yet. Once you hear "Me & My Dog" I think you'll have an even deeper understanding and appreciation for "Letter To An Old Poet."

Your vibes and set up are so soothing and chill. your takes, word-choice, and references are also so thoughtful and nuanced, even your pauses are full of feeling and meaning. i think you might be my new fave reactor haha because of how much you analyze and ride with the music, letting it take you on the journey and understanding/immersing yourself with each step of the way. i hope you keep posting. I'm gonna check out your yves tumor reaction after this-- i love them, they're so underrated. 🥰

Just found you and I adore you. Your insight and the way you tie everything to yourself is lovely. I love BOYGENIUS, but all this video taught me is that you 1000% need Julien Baker’s music in your life. Run, don’t walk. Enjoy. ❤️

Please react to boygenius' self titled EP! Every song on it is extraordinary in the way only boygenius can write, the variety of musical and lyrical content makes 6 songs feel like a complete LP. There are callbacks and ties between the albums too, such as Me & My Dog and Letter To An Old Poet which are delicious to find and seeing your top songs thoughts throughout the album, I feel like Salt In The Wound is the song for you! Also the way you speak on the music is extremely comforting, with hints of personal stories, it feels like a discussion with a friend.

Also, "Satanist" caught my attention as well when I was first listening to the album. It was such a welcome surprise to have radical messages enter this mostly-indie album in a way that I can wholly relate to.

something interesting about boy genius is that songs that on dirt lesson peak to the feeling of romantic lvenre actually inspired by their friendship. in many ways to goes against the idea of the typical love song, instead prioritising their friendship as a band which i love
