Pahoehoe Lava 🌋 Iceland

Basaltic pahoehoe lava coming from the northern vent 3 (the cone or chimney volcano) that formed itself on April 7 right after Easter. Arrived from 20 km earth depth. That volcano also emitted a lot of fumes and gases. Filmed by me on APRIL 8, 2021 with Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G in Full HD (1920×1080) as most of my videos at 14 bitrate. Original sound. Was too much wind that day as you see. I didnt add music over as viewers complain about it:)

#ICELAND2021 #Fagradalsfjall #Geldingadalur
The lava produced by the Fagradalsfjall eruption shows a composition differing from historical Reykjanes lavas. This could be caused by a new batch of magma arriving from mantle depths (ie. from a bigger magma reservoir at a depth of about 17-20 km (11-12 mi) at the Moho under Reykjanes.
"Mafic (Momagnesian, dark-coloured) lavas such as basalt characteristically form flows known by the Hawaiian names pahoehoe and aa (or a’a). Pahoehoe lava flows are characterized by smooth, gently undulating, or broadly hummocky surfaces. The liquid lava flowing beneath a thin, still-plastic crust drags and wrinkles it into tapestry-like folds and rolls resembling twisted rope. Pahoehoe lava flows are fed almost wholly internally by streams of liquid lava flowing beneath a solidified or partly solidified surface. Typically, the margin of a pahoehoe flow advances by protruding one small toe or lobe after another."

Very mesmerizing. Very easy to get lost in the movement videoing it and have it sneak up on you. Pretty fascinating. And then how much that changed in just a few weeks. Everywhere you are standing is now several metres under lava. So windy! Your camera is very steady with that wind speed. I’m impressed. Thanks for sharing!

The sound of the moving lava was hypnotic. That the inside of the Earth was creeping along, yellow, orange and red--entrancing. A great way to spend a late evening on a Friday in Nevada. Iceland sure isn't the dry high desert of North Nevada. Great job, as usual.

I realize there are usually a lot of people around but this morning there weren't and it seems kind of creepy when you focus in on individual people. On a more positive note, does it ever warm up in that region, I'm wondering if the lava would act differently under warmer weather conditions.

Lava is at least 1000°C. Difference to freezing: 1000°C. Difference to a hot summers day in a really hot place: 950°C. That's 5% less cooling. So, no, weather does not have a lot of influence on the behaviour of lava.

How humans can live in Iceland is beyond me, but seeing the earth alive as in your videos would I'm sure make life there bearable. Question.. I realise there is a range of gases released by the lava, but are we also seeing steam as it touches ice and snow and is it also burning lichen and moss as it spreads?
