10:00 I actually saw a story on r/tumblr of a violinist that hanged their violins like that, and one day they woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of their violin strings being softly plucked. They got up to check and a tiny little spider was plucking the strings. This happened because some species of spider, the males pluck the strings of the female's web to attract them, and this spider was probably male. Fun story for anyone that wants to see hehe

6:11 That's Indian(Carnatic) style of playing the violin, the basic ornamentations are Meend, Gamak etc which makes it soothing while transitioning between the notes. There are various disciplines of the scales played known as Ragas which could last from anywhere between a couple of minutes to several hours. Brett and Eddy should look and review Indian classical style too someday.

I myself don't listen to a lot of classical Indian music but I do appreciate what it brings to the table: microtones, polyryhtms, different "flavor", etc. One of my favorite band; "King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard" got inspired from classical Indian music to make their album "Flying Microtonal Banana" and it sounds really cool!

At around 6:53, the reason Eddie had trouble playing is because Indian Classical doesn't use the western 12 note music system. It has a very complex system of its own. Another point is that the pitch of the notes that are used in Indian Classical slightly differ from the western style, so you might have to play like 1/8th pitch above the western note (i have no clue on how violin fingering works). That's why transcribing to western in nearly impossible with Indian Classical music. Anyways, that was a really good try Eddie!

so im a choir student and honestly moveable do is rad it makes sight reading so much easier bc you can hear the intervals better

  • @lillianolkkola

Joules CS Not only that but having a movable do is what even make sight reading possible for singers, and at least for my highschool UIL choir competition was using movable do was expected. It’s basically makes it so that we don’t have to worry about lyrics of a song, able to have uniform vowels when singing (makes a difference in sound), and helps with audiating because of the familiar ‘jumps’ between notes for those who aren’t familiar with singing

Lily Olkkola yes exactly!!! im in the highest chorale at my school, and we use solfej and moveable do to get us familiar with any tricky melodies, or to help solidify any chords or harmonies. not using moveable do is like, the same as just singing the names of the notes, at least in my choir brain.

I made one song in minecraft long time ago. That was a really simple one... and just a few seconds of it took me hours... AND I was using a software to help me to get the right note so... Doing a complete PIECE (that complex too) is amazing.
