Paedophile Hunter: Why I Had To Stop | Extraordinary Lives Podcast |

Ойын-сауық

Mike is a paedophile hunter. When we first met Mike in 2020, he would pose as 12-year-old children to try and entrap men online. Mike’s vigilante work saw him catch and confront offenders across the country. This time, Mike opens up about his own trauma that first led him to paedophile hunting and why he’s now quit the work for good.

    I can't judge him for quitting, most people might hate this crime but he actually did something about it. He's done more for a good cause than I ever have because this type of work has to leave scars on one's psyche. The saying about the void staring back at you has to be rough but he probably saved hundreds of kids from a lifetime of pain.

    And what he did actually? U think there no left pedofile at all? Don`t be naive! This is very difficult problem and no one knows how to solve it coz u cant just do like did with "light drugs" or "guns" it`s unexceptable in society So he basically did nothing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Well actually his probably did things worst coz they for sure no will be much more carefull, so police cant cach them that quickly as it was before Think about it...

    @@Sneaky_Basket Naive? Okay so he shouldn't have stopped pedophiles because maybe they learned how to avoid getting caught by being caught. You could make that argument for anything. Although there are organizations out there that do a terrible job at this sort of thing but this guy is legit. What have you done to stop pedos? Probably the same thing I have just watched them get taken down by Chris Hansen. I don't leave comments to argue with people so I do hope you have a great day and no one you or I know ever comes into any contact with these sickos.

    It really depends on the group involved. From what I have seen they run the gamut from being really professional and doing it for all the right reasons, it just doing it purely for attention and have no care for the wider family and the abuser they are catching. We are much better in the UK than in the US, where a lack of easily used citizens arrest laws makes it difficult to hold them until the authorities arrive, so many of those involved are quite clearly in it for clicks. The ends do not always justify the means here, as they often make the individual phone up their families who are innocent and as a result end up posting these humiliating conversations online.

  • @trip4923

    @trip4923

    Жыл бұрын

    @@guntguardian3771 That's the thing about consequences, they often affect more than just the receiving ndividual. It's not fair to the family, but they need to know when they are harboring a pedo. The police aren't always there to clean up the mess exactly how you would prefer. Many pedo hunting groups DO act silly and unprofessional. While still doing a great job at what they set out to do. Pedophiles deserve no mercy and deserve every negative thing that comes their way. When it comes to this kind of justice, there is not a right way to go about it. You either get the guy caught or you don't.

  • @guntguardian3771

    @guntguardian3771

    Жыл бұрын

    @@trip4923 Yeah, but that does not mean that the way the family is informed should be used as some sort of spectacle. No one would say they should not be informed, but either that should be done professionally by the team - with a female who takes them to one side and shows them the evidence if they are willing to view it - or via the police. You seem to be saying that it is fine to traumatise innocent people, because people want clicks or cannot be arsed to act in an appropriate manner when telling them their husband, son or dad is a nonce. There is a right way to go about it, making a spectacle of it is clearly just done as a power trip by those involved. They then use the refrain that it is just a nonce to defend their poor behaviour. Seeing them scream "nonce defender" at innocent, and understandably confused and shocked family members because they do not instantly trust what some chavs who have knocked on their door are claiming is nuts. It's actually disgusting. People defending these actions because it's a nonce do not seem to realise that this is in turn harming their own cause - professionalism would make it easier for authorities to work more closely with teams, and in doing so benefiting everyone asides from those who are preying on children.

    Not many people can bare the worlds pain, suffering and horror to this degree, let alone a victim/survivor of said horror. It must take such a strong stomach, heart, mind and soul to endure this... but not a broken soul, and this man, God bless him, is a broken soul. You can hear it in his voice, see it in his eyes, his posture, his apathy - he is haunted, this is PTSD. His pursuit of truth and justice, though highly honourable, is akin to self harm in his case, ripping open that wound daily. This man deserves a medal, a reward and the best aftercare money can buy, he's a guardian angel among mere mortals and cowards. As for the "higher up police" being against good, brave men like Michael, men doing Gods work - well, we all know why... crooked, complicit, GUILTY.

You slowly face your demons and you learn you have nothing to fear, that you're stronger than them. Also he mentioned looking for answers, lots of people who had dysfunctional relationships as children seek to re-enact them in adulthood in order to change the pattern and resolve the conflict in a better way.

    Love yourself first. Be kind to yourself even if you made a mistake. Betrayal says volumes about them and nothing about you. You had the courage to open up which is a huge milestone for yourself. Next time vet your partner longer before opening up. Match their level of intimacy and loyalty, but only at YOUR comfort level. Look up reparenting to help yourself through your negative inner voices you inherited from past trauma. Research narcissism so you can identify and separate genuine people from those that are toxic with self-serving behavior. It will help you identify what may have conditioned you growing up too which can contribute to being naive about the nature of some people. Also research and truly contemplate your own boundaries and don't budge for no one. Create boundaries and know how to enforce them. People will love you with your boundaries and all. People that challenge your boundaries do not have your best interests in mind.

    I cant imagine the psychological trauma doing this kind of thing must leave, I had to stop watching the sting videos because of how it affected me mentally, I actually saw people I grew up with and went to school with and called friends at one time or another on those stings, I think its the realisation of just how many of these horrible people there are out there, its terrifying as a father

If we hadn't been as vigilant God knows where it could have lead? I personally would love to become a hunter, they do a fantastic job the ones that follow the law and build up the case. We'll done to this guy for his service to protecting children. 👏

    As the mum of a nearly 3 year old boy, and another one on the way, I couldn't help but get emotional watching this. Seeing two adult males talking so candidly about the abuse they faced has me in awe of their strength. I feel so sad they weren't protected as they should have been, they deserved so much more. I just can't get my head around how anyone can abuse children, it really does keep me up at night.

    I met Mike and Danny - Lads Like Us at a Resolve Conference in London earlier this year. Their lived experience is so sad. But, how far they have come today comes down to that one person who managed to turn something on which changed their whole compass of life. Its a key we all hold for someone else struggling, just don't stop trying your key in people. One day it will fit on someone. Mike and Danny's true potential got unlocked by someone who just listened and didn't give up trying. Being trauma informed and as he said The Power of One, can achieve one man's true potential.

Something that I was really hoping to hear discussed are funding issues, budget cuts, socioeconomic issues and systemic fracturing of social welfare in the UK and how this attributes to the way people speak out. Or potentially even the way in which social workers tackle cases/case loads.

    Two incredibly brave men who are and have changed lives, by having the courage to share their stories. All ‘behaviour’ is a form of communication and in particular, we must listen to children through our eyes. This way, as a community, we can start to shine a torch on the significant lifelong negative impacts that are experienced by millions of ppl across the globe, from the trauma of sexual assault. If you want to really understand others beyond words, listen with your eyes and soon you may become a person who has empathy, compassion and deep love for those we simply don’t understand. There will never be any comparison, but it will help you decide what shoes to put on when you begin to walk a mile in their shoes

    This really speaks to me, after I'd been sexually assaulted I hit rock bottom. I became dependant on alcohol, I was acting out on dating apps with absolute idiots, and it took a really evil fight with my parents to wake me up and ask for help. I'm doing things that I enjoy now, and I'm possibly on my way to having a real proper romantic relationship with someone I suppose Rue should get a mention too, sitting there and seeing those graphic depictions of withdrawal made realize that shit, I don't want to end up like her.

    The down fall of these teams were the ones that popped up just for attention the ones that would turn up making jokes taking the piss out of the way people look and creating dumb games out of it like nonce bingo while making unnecessary comments about things that were irrelevant to what they claimed they was there for, those people I won't name any names but we know who they are and what teams they belonged to are the reason why these legit teams and hunters got a bad response from the police and some members of the public I'm all down for turning up and exposing/filming these people and then uploading it to youtube after the police have done their side of things, but Turing up to their homes with multiple people blasting them and their family live all over the internet screaming your heads off about the way they smell or look whole drawing in unwanted attention from the public before they have been charged with anything is just fked up in its own way

    Well done. This podcast is without doubt, an inspirational legend. Those two guys are fantastic. Their determination, their erudite and truthful explanations are breathtaking. I’m so glad that agencies up and down the country have honed in on their vital skills. When they start thinking about dishing out knighthoods and the like; these are the true worthy recipients. I worked in Housing for many years and I saw how the job easily entwined with other vital services to safeguard vulnerable people. What annoys me is it has to take two fundamentally “normal” blokes to shake up and wake up professional services. Government need to notice these two and pay attention. Oh, and they’re both Mancs; like me ( no bias, honestly) Well done boys. You’re both UTTER LEGENDS.
