Love watching these videos, Reminds me of High Edge Raceway (Buxton) in the 80s. Why do drivers wipe out other drivers on the barriers when it wipes their own car out too?

BackYardTuning because when the cars are found 9 times out of 10 the engines are gone or irreparable, so why would they go and piss loads of money on restoring or buying a V8 when 4/6cyl engines are far cheaper and just as fast

I beg to differ on that point I understand maybe they are hard to find, but I would better they are more reliable at taking hits then any crappy ass pinto engine, lugging around 4000lbs of metal A 350 mated to a th350 auto trans would be a far better more capable setup on a derby car then a shit tastic 100hp 2.3l junk. Or else you would see guys swapping 2.3s here in North America (no one does that here) probably because we have tons of v8s in every wrecking yard I’ve been to derbies with guys running modified v8s running almost 9000 rpm in derby cars and nothing sounds better then that However banger cars over the pond have more balls and bigger hits and less rules, just wished they used real engines instead,

BackYardTuning they are just as fast, all banger world final winners in the last 20+ years have been fords, Mercedes, jaguars and a Lexus, all running 2.3 Dohc ford in-line 4s or 2.9 ford V6s. Not a V8 in sight. So when you say the engines are ‘crap’ you’re totally wrong. The ones that do run V8s occasionally are the yank tanks that are used just for crashing and are useless for going fast, and most of the time the V8s are replaced with more reliable motors anyway

BackYardTuning first of all the engines banger drivers use in the big championship races produce more than 100 horsepower, secondly, you try and win a banger race lugging a 3 tonne V8 tank on a tight track. The scorpios, Granada’s and e classes will fly past you no bother. You’ve clearly never watched bangers so I can garuntee that round a banger track, V8s are pretty much useless

Most banger meetings have 2 heats, a final and a DD the heats and finals are 15 laps. Who ever finishes first wins. The DD (destruction derby) is the last car running. You are allowed heathy contact to either get past cars or put on a show
