Your common sense approach restores my faith in the military. Many thanks for posting.
Thank you for these "Road-side" repairs to get us through the gig. Of course we get it fixed properly as soon as we can, but your hints can save us a lot of embarrassment on the night. Thanks again.
Genius! I'm just starting to learn instrument repair and as a gigging musician I will from now on always have these with me! Thanks x
All of these videos are great! Thank you for this! This is an invaluable resource.
Thank you for posting this video! I had a misbehaving F/C pad and a Christmas gig. The Teflon tape made for a great bandaid, allowing me to play until I could get it to my repair guy. A roll of it now lives in my case. Thanks again!
You are a genius! I've had teflon tape in my repair kit for years, but only used it for corks. Now when I pick up some silly putty, i'll be able to replace a pad in 15 seconds like you! A few years ago I was playing a festival in the desert - hot & dry in the day, cold & dry at night - in the middle of a solo, my c#/g# key fell out (thankfully wedged sideways into the cup, not lost)... I had to run off stage & borrow a lighter to reinstall it, missing the rest of the song. If only I'd had silly putty, i could have artfully paused & maybe even finished the solo!
Thanks alot . This helped me out when I was fixing my grandfathers clarinet . He will be so happy
Thanks for your question. We are soldiers in the United States Army and our work attire was the Army Combat Uniform, as you see in the video. We also have a distinctive formal uniform for performances.
Ingenious. I appreciate resourceful people.
What a great video! Silly Puddy is one of my favorite tools while working on some pesky wood oboes. Lol! I also love how cost conciousness plays a role too! Enjoyable videos!
Lol this is exactly what happened! I was in marching band practice and all of a sudden my clarinet wouldn't play I asked my teacher she said that my pad had fallen off. Also I have to march today (Friday) at a home football game. Lol thanks a lot!!!!!!☺️☺️☺️☺️
Thank you for this video! I'm new to clarinet, practicing on a pawn shop deal lol, so this saves me buku $$$$ on taking it in or getting a new clarinet, at least til I know I'm gonna stick with this instrument. Blessings!
excelent video i just recieved an old clarinet from ebay that is missing a pad from the left hand 2nd finger key and doing this with bluetack and electrical tape got it playing, its by far perfect but this has let me test it out before deciding what to do with it, which will be a complete repad and changing the corks.
this video doesn't got all the likes it deserves :C thank you so much for your knowledge
Amazing, Thank you very much.
Brilliant, thank you!
You are awsome, youtube should hire you. Thank you.
This is amazing
Thank you...you just saved my life
This stuff is pretty nifty information... My daughter has a used clarinet for her school band and it's just yesterday (2/9/23) started not playing anything when she tries to use any keys but it will make sound if she isn't using any keys at all. My sister was in band as well when she was in school but hadn't really retained any of what she learned with the clarinet that she had.
Thank you!
Thank you MSgt. Barton. I’m 65 and was given a 1979 clarinet that looks all original. I don’t have anyone to ask about it for what it needs. I did the plumbers tape around the pads and it sure sounds better. I recorked the joints and maybe I’ll try to install new pads next!

Glad to hear that!
Genius!!
Thanks! I was able to use this with blue-tack to get a used clarinet playable enough so that I could ensure that there was no other problems that needed to be addressed. Really clever to combine with the teflon tape!

allen tipton You could try using masking tape in a pinch to hold it down and get you through a gig, but we would recommend buying a replacement keypad and glue it in. You will need a glue that can adhere fabric to metal. If all else fails, get it professionally replaced!

I wonder if duct tape will work instead of the plumber's tape.
I need to stock up in silly putty now
can you do something else rather than puddy
