Pad Krapow and Detroit's Best Thai Food at a Buddhist Temple - Cooking in America

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Cooking in America is in Detroit, and host Sheldon Simeon makes his first stop at the Midwest Buddhist Meditation Center, a temple established in 1995 as the first and only Buddhist center in Detroit. In the courtyard, Sheldon tries out Detroit's best Thai food including a spice pad krapow.
Phenwipha Nelson works as a waitress, and she learned how to cook both from her mother and from culinary school training in Thailand. Her pad krapow is a favorite of the Sunday market that happens bimonthly at the Center, and she made it two-ways for Sheldon - with pork and with seafood.
Eater is the one-stop-shop for food and restaurant obsessives across the country. With features, explainers, animations, recipes, and more - it’s the most indulgent food content around. So get hungry.

  • @wwdezygn

You just use the oil and chicken egg (duck egg is not good with this type of fried egg because of its smell and taste). With not too much oil in the pan and fry an egg only one side,do not flip it. Wait for an egg cooked by looking at its edge turning a little bit brown. Finish! P.s. add a little bit of soysauce or salt. You’ll get more taste.

The vegetarian Buddhist monks are usually part of the Mahayana Buddhist school. Buddhist monks are vegetarian in China & Vietnam. The great Shaolin Kung Fu monks in China follow a plant based diet. Theravada school is a different Buddhist school in countries like Thailand & Cambodia.

I know as a vietnamese buddhist its weird to me but my girlfirend is Laos and when i first saw her monks eating meat i asked about it. And for Laotian and Thai monks they are from a different school of buddhism thats okay with eating meat. It's different but they still have basically the same teachings. It's never over consumed either.

It's Theravada Buddhism practiced mainly in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. Monks cannot choose what they eat so they have to eat whatever people give to them, with some exceptions.
